  • Explaining disparities in absenteeism between kindergarteners with and without disabilities

    Open Access•Kevin A Gee, Michael A Gottfried et al.•ARTICLE•Early Childhood Research Quarterly•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 1

The disparity in absenteeism between kindergarteners with and without disabilities is a persistent phenomenon across schools in the United States and reflects ongoing systemic inequities that disadvantage young children with disabilities. Yet, evidence of factors underlying this disparity remains less well understood, limiting the ability for schools to transform how they support students with disabilities in ways that could help narrow the dispa…

  • Content and Delivery of Physical Therapy in Multiple Sclerosis across Europe

Open Access•Kamila Řasová, Jennifer Freeman et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Background: Guidelines and general recommendations are available for multiple sclerosis rehabilitation, but no specific guidance exists for physical therapists. Describing aspects of physical therapy content and delivery in multiple sclerosis and its determinants and analysing whether general recommendations connected with physical therapy are implemented in practice is important for interpreting clinical and research evidence. Methods: An online…

  • Real-World Goal Setting and Use of Outcome Measures According to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health

Open Access•Kamila Řasová, Patrícia Martinková et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Goal setting is a core component of physical therapy in multiple sclerosis (MS). It is unknown whether and to what extent goals are set at different levels of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), and whether, and to which, standardized outcome measures are used in real life for evaluation at the different ICF levels. Our aim was to describe the real-world use of goal setting and outcome measures in Europe.…

  • Heeding Women's Voices

Open Access•Emiko Noma, Dee Aker et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Peacebuilding &…•2012•Cited by: 4•References: 4

This article highlights the gap between institutional approaches to peacebuilding – which narrowly focus on post-conflict reconstruction of formal state institutions – and the lived experiences of grassroots peacebuilders. It analyses the documented stories of participants in the Women PeaceMakers 1 Program at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice at the University of San Diego, demonstrating that peacebuilding does not occur simply afte…

  • Using the Short Form-36 with Multiple Sclerosis Patients in Five Countries

Open Access•Lilian Pfennings, Leo Cohen et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1999

Questionnaires measuring health-related quality of life are increasingly used in international studies of medical effectiveness. It is important to know if data from these instruments are comparable across countries. We initiated a collaboration among five research groups--from the USA, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, and the UK--in the field of health-related quality of life in multiple sclerosis. All groups used the 36-item Short Form Health …

  • Cross sectional stature and weight reference curves for the UK, 1990.

Jenny Freeman, J V Freeman et al.•ARTICLE•Archives of Disease in Childhood•1995

The current reference curves of stature and weight for the UK were first published in 1966 and have been used ever since despite increasing concern that they may not adequately describe the growth of present day British children. Using current data from seven sources new reference curves have been estimated from birth to 20 years for children in 1990. The great majority of the data are nationally representative. The analysis used Cole's LMS metho…

  • Body mass index reference curves for the UK, 1990.

Tim J Cole, Jenny Freeman et al.•ARTICLE•Archives of Disease in Childhood•1995

Reference curves for stature and weight in British children have been available for the past 30 years, and have recently been updated. However weight by itself is a poor indicator of fatness or obesity, and there has never been a corresponding set of reference curves to assess weight for height. Body mass index (BMI) or weight/height has been popular for assessing obesity in adults for many years, but its use in children has developed only recent…
