  • Reconciling natural habitat size loss and quality enhancement

Open Access•Siya Li, Qiulei Ji et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2025

Amid accelerating urbanization and severe biodiversity loss in global drylands, reconciling urbanization with habitat conservation is crucial for sustainable development. Focused on China’s Loess Plateau (LP), a typical arid to semi-arid region, this study quantified the dual effects of urbanization on both the size and quality of natural habitats (NHs) from 1990 to 2050 by multi-scenario land cover simulations with the system dynamics PLUS model…

  • The Revival of the Third World as an Alternative Cosmopolitan Approach to African Revolution in Wizard of the Crow

Yao Feng, Feng Yao et al.•ARTICLE•ANQ A Quarterly Journal of Short…•2025•References: 2

Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o’s twenty-first-century novel, Wizard of the Crow, whose Kikuyu version was completed in March 2022, was hailed by the author himself as a magnum opus. In 2004, after ending his 22

  • A flexible stochastic production frontier model with panel data

Open Access•Taining Wang, Yao Feng et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Applied Econometrics•2024

We propose a flexible stochastic production frontier model with fixed effects for the panel data in which the semiparametric frontier is additive with bivariate interactions. To avoid potential misspecification and/or “wrong skew problem” due to distributional assumptions, we model the conditional mean of the inefficiency to depend on environmental variables and to be known up to a vector of parameters. We propose a difference‐based estimator for…

  • China’s carbon neutrality policy facilitates halving industrial water withdrawal

Open Access•Zhe Li, Fubao Sun et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2024

China concurrently confronts acute water resource challenges and substantial carbon emissions, with its industrial sector being a significant freshwater consumer and a primary carbon emitter. China has committed to achieving carbon neutrality (CN) by 2060, yet the exact impact of this goal on industrial water withdrawal (IWW) remains unclear. Here, we project IWW in China considering both scenarios with and without the CN target, based on industr…

  • Effect of Regulatory Focus on Food Variety-Seeking Behavior of Chinese Tourists

    Open Access•Hongjing CUI, Hong-Jing Cui et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Hospitality & Tourism…•2023

While limited attention has been paid to personality traits that influence tourists’ variety-seeking behavior with respect to food, evidence shows that Chinese people choose less variety than their counterparts in Western countries. We propose that regulatory focus influences consumers’ food variety-seeking behavior. Building on the theoretical alignment between regulatory focus, food neophobia, and food variety-seeking tendency, this research ex…

  • Impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the dynamic Covid-zero strategy on HIV incidence and mortality in China

Open Access•Lan Wang, Na Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

The findings suggest that China's dynamic COVID-zero strategy may have partly disrupted HIV transmission and further slowed down its growth. Without China's dynamic COVID-zero strategy, HIV incidence and deaths in the country would have likely remained high in 2020-2022. There is an urgent need to expand and improve HIV prevention, care, and treatment, as well as surveillance in the future

  • Isoliquiritigenin from licorice flavonoids attenuates NLRP3-mediated pyroptosis by Sirt6 in vascular endothelial cells

Open Access•Jianyu He, Ying Deng et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2023

  • Does high debt ratio influence Chinese firms’ performance? A semiparametric stochastic frontier approach with zero inefficiency

Open Access•Taining Wang, Jinjing Tian et al.•ARTICLE•Empirical Economics•2021

  • Semiparametric Smooth Coefficient Stochastic Frontier Model With Panel Data

Yao Feng, Feng Yao et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•2019

We investigate the semiparametric smooth coefficient stochastic frontier model for panel data in which the distribution of the composite error term is assumed to be of known form but depends on some environmental variables. We propose multi-step estimators for the smooth coefficient functions as well as the parameters of the distribution of the composite error term and obtain their asymptotic properties. The Monte Carlo study demonstrates that th…
