  • Healthy lifestyle over the life course

    Open Access•Edith E Schermer, Peter M Engelfriet et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

For five health-related lifestyle factors (physical activity, weight, smoking, sleep, and alcohol consumption) we describe both population trends and individual changes over a period of 30 years in the same adult population. Dichotomous indicators (healthy/unhealthy) of lifestyle were analyzed for 3,139 participants measured every 5 years in the Doetinchem Cohort Study (1987–2017). Population trends over 30 years in physical inactivity and “unhea…

  • Neighbourhood socioeconomic inequalities in incidence of acute myocardial infarction

    Open Access•Carla Koopman, A A M van Oeffelen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

Neighbourhood socioeconomic inequalities were observed in AMI incidence in the Netherlands, but the magnitude across age-gender groups depended on whether inequality was expressed in relative or absolute terms. Relative socioeconomic inequalities were high in young persons and women, where the absolute burden of AMI was low. Absolute socioeconomic inequalities in AMI were highest in the age-gender groups of middle-aged men and elderly women, wher…

  • Estimating and comparing incidence and prevalence of chronic diseases by combining GP registry data

Open Access•Pieter Van Baal, Pieter H van Baal et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

Estimates of incidence and prevalence can be obtained by combining data from GPRNs. Uncertainty in the estimates of absolute figures may lead to different rankings of diseases and, hence, should be taken into consideration when comparing disease incidences and prevalences

  • Statecraft and intellectual renewal in late Ming China

Catherine Jami, Peter Engelfriet et al.•BOOK•Statecraft and intellectual…•2001

Xu Guangqi was one of the first promoters of Western science in China, worked together with the Jesuit Matteo Ricci on translations of Western science, was one of the first Chinese converts, a high-ranking statesman, organizer of a major calendar reform, introduced Western weapons into the Chinese army, etc. etc. The current volume is a composite profile of this complex figure that is solidly anchored in Chinese (and Western) primary sources. A m…

  • Linked Faiths

Paul W Kroll, Jan A D De Meyer et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of the American Oriental…•2001

It is a recognized fact that the boundaries between the various religions in China, and those between religion and culture in general, have always been fluid. This can only be duly acknowledged by careful research from many angles - and by many experts. It is exactly these mutual influences that form the leading theme in this Festschrift in honour of Kristofer Schipper, taken up by a selection of his many pupils and colleagues. The 13 contributio…
