The transition to civilian life
Although these findings underscore the impact of PTSD on functioning and SI, they also highlight the complexity of multimorbidity and the importance of bolstering social functioning for veterans. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)
Conditioned physiological reactivity and PTSD symptoms across the menstrual cycle
Results offer preliminary evidence that high AS contributes to a stronger relationship between SCR during fear acquisition and PTSD symptoms, at least among women in the mLP. Further research investigating the impact of individual differences in traits such as AS on the relationship between conditioned fear responses and PTSD symptoms is warranted. Deployment stress, tobacco use, and postdeployment posttraumatic stress disorder
We found a dose-dependent relationship between deployment stress and adoption and escalation of tobacco use; the stressors that provoked initiation and escalation of tobacco use differed by gender. Continued tobacco use after deployment was associated with PTSD in women suggesting that women used tobacco more selectively than men to regulate negative affect. Implications of this work are that training before combat and during combat on healthy me…
Anxiety sensitivity as a moderator of the association between premenstrual symptoms and posttraumatic stress disorder symptom severity
Experience of premenstrual symptoms may be an important factor involved in understanding posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptom vulnerability. Correlations between PTSD and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) have been identified in epidemiological studies, however, the nature of this relation is not clear. The current study examined the incremental validity of premenstrual symptoms, as well as their interaction with anxiety sensitivity,…
Differential associations between partner violence and physical health symptoms among Caucasian and African American help-seeking women
The relationship between partner violence and physical health symptoms is well-established. Although some researchers have theorized that the physical health effects of partner violence may be worse for ethnic minority women, there is little research addressing this topic. The current study examined whether African American women demonstrate a differential association in this relationship than Caucasian women. This study included 323 women (232 A…
