An Automated Approach for Clipping Geographic Data before Projection that Maintains Data Integrity and Minimizes Distortion for Virtually Any Projection Method
Selecting a map projection is key to minimizing distortion and thus clear communication of spatial data and accurate spatial analysis. Methods exist for selecting projections based on the intended area of use but not for finding polygons that can be used to clip geographic data to ensure the data are projected correctly and within desired distortion limits. The projection methods available in the Proj library were examined to determine the nature…
The impacts of an invasive species citizen science training program on participant attitudes, behavior, and science literacy
Citizen science can make major contributions to informal science education by targeting participants’ attitudes and knowledge about science while changing human behavior towards the environment. We examined how training associated with an invasive species citizen science program affected participants in these areas. We found no changes in science literacy or overall attitudes between tests administered just before and after a one-day training pro…
From new right to new deal
Economic rationalist arguments continue to be used to justify educational reforms. Within such a paradigm, this paper argues that the educational reforms of the New Right were based on neo-Fordist principles, establishing a low wage – low skill economy; polarising the workforce and exacerbating social inequality.
