Exploring adolescents’ indirect financial and non-financial barriers to dental care non-attendance
Background and aims Dental attendance is key to the prevention and early detection of oral diseases. In Saudi Arabia (SA), dental care is publicly funded for citizens; however, many families opt for private care through insurance or out-of-pocket payment. This study has twofold: (1) to examine factors associated with regular dental attendance versus non-dental attendance among adolescents, and (2) to explore the indirect financial and non-financi…

Practicing Dentists’ Self-Efficacy and Associated Factors in Managing the Treatment of Adults with Mental and Physical Disabilities

E-Cigarette as a Harm Reduction Approach among Tobacco Smoking Khat Chewers
Khat chewing/use, a green leaf with amphetamine-like effects is socially integrated in the Middle East and Africa. Khat chewing is often associated with tobacco smoking and occurs in closed places, such as a family home setting where the smoke-free laws cannot be implemented. Tobacco cigarette smoking among khat chewers is a significant concern, but there is also second-hand exposure to smoke at home or in places where khat users gather. Evidence…
The likelihood of khat chewing serving as a neglected and reverse ‘gateway’ to tobacco use among UK adult male khat chewers
Khat chewing may promote different patterns of tobacco smoking, initiate and sustain tobacco smoking, and trigger tobacco cessation relapses among STKU. Increased frequency of tobacco smoking among STKU was linked to psycho-physical and behavioural factors. Further investigation within large and representative samples of both sexes of STKU in different contexts should be considered for health research and policy development. Khat chewing should b…
Khat dependence syndrome
Factors associated with dental and medical care attendance in UK resident Yemeni khat chewers
In this study of khat chewers, a significant proportion reported symptomatic dental and medical attendance. Demographic, psychosocial and self reported general health conditions were associated significantly with dental and medical attendance. Strategies to improve the dental and medical care attendance amongst this group should focus on these and other unexplored underlying factors
Validation of self-reported khat chewing amongst khat chewers
Validity and reliability of a Severity of Dependence Scale for khat (SDS-khat)
