  • Coloniality and Decolonization in the Nordic Region

Adrián Groglopo, Julia Suárez-Krabbe•BOOK•Coloniality and Decolonization in…•2023

This book advances critical discussions about what coloniality, decoloniality, and decolonisation mean and imply in the Nordic region. It brings together analysis of complex realities from the perspectives of the Nordic peoples, a region that is often overlooked in current research, and explores the processes of decolonisation that are taking place in this region. The book offers a variety of perspectives that engage with issues such as Islamic f…

  • Relinking as healing. On crisis, whiteness and the existential dimensions of decolonization

    Julia Suárez-Krabbe•ARTICLE•Globalizations•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 4

In this paper, I present my reading of two paths of existence in texts written by white Danes concerned with crisis. The first obeys the politics of purity and involves an existential commitment to status quo. I call this path whiteness collapsing into itself, inasmuch it remains locked in the confines of the politics of purity, makes impossible both delinking from modernity-coloniality, and relinking, as the process of delving and dwelling in th…

  • Enforcing Apartheid

    Open Access•Julia Suárez-Krabbe, A Lindberg•ARTICLE•Migration and Society•2019

Across Northern European states, we can observe a proliferation of “hostile environments” targeting racialized groups. This article zooms in on Denmark and discusses recent policy initiatives that are explicitly aimed at excluding, criminalizing, and inflicting harm on migrants and internal “others” by making their lives “intolerable.” We use the example of Danish deportation centers to illustrate how structural racism is institutionalized and im…

  • Race, Rights and Rebels: Alternatives to Human Rights and Development from the Global South

    Julia Suárez-Krabbe•BOOK•Race, rights, and rebels•2015

Human rights and development cannot be understood separately. They are historically connected by the idea of race, and have evolved concomitantly with the latter. As the tools of race, human rights and development have been forged in the effort to legitimize and maintain coloniality. While rights and development can be used as tools to achieve protection, specific political goals, or access in the dominant society, they limit radical social chang…

  • Democratising democracy, humanising human rights: European decolonial social movements and the “alternative thinking of alternatives”

    Open Access•Julia Suárez-Krabbe•ARTICLE•MIGRATION LETTERS•2013

This paper offers a snapshot of the potential contributions that Decolonial Social Movements have to the democratisation of democracy and to the humanisation of human rights. It analyses European realities of racist exclusion through the theorizations of four Decolonial Social Movements; the Parti des Indigènes de la République (PIR) in France, the Dutch Black Movement, the Islamic Human Rights Commission in the UK, and the Studies Group of the A…

  • Identity and the preservation of being

    Julia Suárez-Krabbe•ARTICLE•Social Identities•2012•Cited by: 5•References: 9

The Mamos are the spiritual and political authorities of the four indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada in the Colombian Caribbean: the Arhuacos, Kankuamos, Kogis and Wiwas. Their work to preserve their own and their peoples’ identity is connected to a larger task; that of preserving the life and being of all that exists. This implies that identity can be conceptualised in two levels, a metaphysical and a social level, and that processes of ide…
