Open Access•Wei Li, Wenhua Li et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2026

Background: Recent studies suggest first-trimester maternal haemoglobin (Hb) may be linked to gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), but evidence remains limited. This study examined the association between high first-trimester haemoglobin and GDM risk. Methods: This prospective study included 18 484 singleton pregnant women with a gestational age of ≤14 weeks in the Fujian Birth Cohort Study. Haemoglobin of the first trimester is divided into low …

  • Associations between multidimensional social support and satisfaction with community mental health services: Evidence from China with heterogeneity analysis

Open Access•Hui Li, Haitao Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background Mental health presents a significant global public health challenge. China is transitioning toward a community-based mental health service model; however, service quality and satisfaction remain constrained by an overreliance on medical-technical solutions and insufficient attention to broader psychosocial factors. The mechanisms through which different dimensions of social support are associated with service satisfaction, and their va…

Open Access•Yulong Zhang, Haibo Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Background: Persistent HR-HPV causes cervical cancer, exhibiting geographic variance. Europe/Americas have higher HPV16/18 rates, while Asia/Africa predominantly have non-16/18 HR-HPV. This study in Fujian, Asia, explores non-16/18 HR-HPV infections, assessing their epidemiology and cervical lesion association for targeted prevention. Methods: A total of 101,621 women undergoing HPV screening at a hospital in Fujian Province from 2013 to 2019 wer…

  • The lag-effects of meteorological factors and air pollutants on child respiratory diseases in Fuzhou, China

Open Access•Zhengqin Wu, Chong Miao et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2022

Background: The effects of meteorological factors and air pollutants on respiratory diseases (RDs) were various in different populations according to the demographic characteristics, and children were considered a vulnerable population. Previous studies were mainly based in cities with serious air pollution. This study aimed to qualify the lag effects of meteorological factors and air pollution on respiratory diseases among children under 18 year…

  • Stabilization/Solidification of Heavy Metals and PHe Contaminated Soil with β-Cyclodextrin Modified Biochar (β-CD-BC) and Portland Cement

Open Access•Geng Li, Haibo Li et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Conventional stabilization/solidification materials have defects in the simultaneous treatment of heavy metals (HMs) and phenanthrene (PHe). In order to solve this problem, a new functional material β-cyclodextrin modified biochar (β-CD-BC) was prepared by integrating the properties of biochar (BC) and the hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties of the β-CD surface and combined with Portland cement (PC) to cure and stabilize HMs and PHe. The effec…

  • Enhanced Microbial Oxidation–Neutralization Treatment of Acid Mine Drainage Rich in Ferrous Ions (Fe2+)

Open Access•Wenjie He, Haibo Li et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

In this work, a method of enhanced packed-bed microbial oxidation-neutralization has been employed to treat Fe 2+ -rich acid mine drainage. The method features the use of a large number of immobile Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans ( A. ferrooxidans ) in a bioreactor to promote the oxidation of Fe 2+ to Fe 3+ . Results show that when the influent Fe 2+ concentration is about 900 mg/L and the Fe 2+ oxidation efficiency tends to 100%, the maximum oxid…
