  • Betweenness’ and ‘twofoldness’

    Peng Feng•ARTICLE•Asian Philosophy•2023

In appreciating paintings, what we experience is either a result of their medium or object, regardless of whether the object is an actual thing, a fictional thing, an internal emotion, an abstract idea, or something else. • Aesthetic Appreciation of Chinese Gardens

    Open Access•Peng Feng•ARTICLE•Global Journal of Cultural Studies•2022

  • Arthur Danto as a Zen master

    Peng Feng•ARTICLE•Asian Philosophy•2021

Arthur Danto is one of the best Anglophone philosophers of art of the second half of the 20th century. His unique methodology of indiscernibility and provocative claim about the end of art have been and continue to be influential across various cultures. In this sense, it interesting to note that Danto’s philosophy of art seems to be initially inspired by Zen. This influence has been somehow ignored in contemporary discussion of Danto’s art theor…

  • Beauty ( Mei , 美) in the Zhuangzi and Contemporary Theories of Beauty

    Peng Feng•ARTICLE•Journal of Aesthetic Education•2020

In this article, I outline a reading of Mei in the Zhuangzi, taken to mean “beauty” or “the beautiful.” There is a possible anachronism involved in such an approach because mei is not central to Zhuangzi’s thinking. Nonetheless, I will argue that interesting points of relevance between Zhuangzi’s comments on mei and contemporary theories of beauty can be found and that an intercultural interpretation of mei and the beautiful can shed light on asp…
