Staryye Chuti site of the Srubnaya culture on the Ik River
The article introduces data from rescue operations at the Staryye Chuti site of the Srubnaya culture, located on the left bank of the Ik River in the Bavlinsky District of the Republic of Tatarstan. The studies were conducted on both sides of the existing road bridge over the Ik River. The area of excavation 1 in the northeastern part of the site is 1,100 m2, and the area of excavation 2 in the southwestern part is 520 m2. The total area explored…
Geological dating of the earliest Minusinsk Depression rock art, the Maydashy site, Southern Siberia
The hypothesis of Paleolithic rock art in Siberia remains neither proven nor disproven. This research provides key evidence for a later age of the earliest known images in the Minusinsk Depression. A set of geological, geomorphological, and absolute-dating methods was utilized to reconstruct the geological history of the Maydashy rock art site (Minusinsk Depression, Southern Siberia). This research for the first time has allowed us to date the lo…
On Dating Archaeological Sites Evidencing Ferrous Metallurgy in the Southeastern Altai, Based on Radiocarbon and Dendrochronological Analyses of Charcoal
On Dating Archaeological Sites Evidencing Ferrous Metallurgy in the Southeastern Altai, based on Radiocarbon and Dendrochronological Analyses of Charcoal
This study examines the use of charcoal for dating iron-smelting furnaces in the southeastern Altai. Problems with using radiocarbon analysis in this case are connected with the accuracy of assessing the calendar age. Another important reason why the age of furnaces is overestimated is the “old wood” effect. This effect cannot be avoided by making radiocarbon dating of thin tree trunks (branches) from slag or by using the youngest radiocarbon dat…
Chronological attribution of ancient iron-smelting furnaces (SE altai, mountains of South Siberia) based on analysis of archaeological charcoal
Burials of the Chelbas-8 Kurgan Group (Tikhoretsky District, Krasnodar Region) According to 2024 Excavations
The article provides an overview of salvage excavations of kurgans 2 and 3 of the Chelbas-8 kurgan group, carried out in December 2023 to February 2024. The kurgans are located in the right-bank part of the Chelbas River valley southwest of the town of Tikhoretsk. Burials of the Eneolithic – Early Bronze Age, Middle Bronze Age, Early Iron Age, Late Middle Ages – New Age were found in the earth mounds and under them. Conclusions on the history of …
Comparative Features of Binp Ams and Micadas Facilities Working at Ams Golden Valley, Russia
The AMS Golden Valley radiocarbon analysis laboratory is equipped with two accelerator mass spectrometers: AMS facility from Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics (BINP AMS) and MIni CArbon DAting System (MICADAS-28) from Ionplus AG and two graphitization systems: Automated Graphitization Equipment (AGE-3) from Ionplus AG and Absorption-catalytic setup developed in Boreskov Institute of Catalysis (ACS BIC). The laboratory provides routine 14 C anal…
Stone Age Ivory Points from the Arctic Zone of Northeast Asia
We give a technological and typological description of two well-preserved points (one fragmented rod-shaped, the other double-slotted), made of mammoth ivory and found in the Ust-Yansky District of Sakha-Yakutia in 2016. Traces evidencing various stages of manufacture are described in detail. A succession of technological operations is reconstructed, from the preparation of preforms and further processing by planing and abrasion to final polishin…
The Solnechny Site and the Late Upper Paleolithic Culture of the Middle Yenisei Region
The Palaeolithic site of Solnechny was discovered in in the city of Krasnoyarsk (Middle Siberia) in 2017. The site is located on the high terrace levels of the left side of the Yenisei River valley, at a considerable distance from the modern river bed. During the salvage excavations in 2019 and 2020 the site was studied over an area of more than 3500 square meters. The rich Paleolithic cultural layer was included in the profile of modern chernoze…
Stone Age Ivory Points from the Arctic Zone of Northeast Asia

The ‘Tri Skaly’ Geoarchaeological Site in Western Transbaikalia
The ‘Tri Skaly’ archaeological multilayered site in Western Transbaikalia is one of the latest discovered which investigations began in 2015. Lower lithological layers at this site contain archaeological materials typical for the Western Transbaikalian Early Upper Palaeolithic and revealed analogies in different areas with the materials of the most investigated sites belonged to this period: Podzvonkaya Eastern Complex, Podzvonkaya South-Eastern …
Chronology of Archaeological Complexes with Geometric Microliths in Northern Mongolia
Upper Palaeolithic microlithic complexes in Northeast Asia are usually included in the spectrum of non-geometric industries. Mongolia, which is considered a possible crossroads of Middle and Upper Paleolithic migration routes due to its environmental and geographic conditions, is the only exception in this vast region. The Tolbor cluster of sites in the Middle Selenga Basin contains lithic complexes with trapezes and segments. We define the chron…
