  • Parinari curatellifolia aqueous leaf-bark extract mitigates chronic Plasmodium berghei-induced bone loss in Wistar rats through anti-inflammatory and osteoregenerative mechanisms

Open Access•Josiane Jouonzo, Florence Ngueguim Tsofack et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2027

  • Metabolic health and cardiovascular risk among Cameroonian adults with and without obesity

Open Access•Maxwell Wandji Nguedjo, Ousmane Mfopou Mbiondi et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2026

Obesity contributes to increased morbidity and mortality, yet its metabolic heterogeneity remains underexplored in sub-Saharan Africa. This study examined associations between body composition, insulin sensitivity, inflammation, and the metabolically healthy profile (MHP), and assessed cardiovascular risk among Cameroonian adults with and without obesity. In this cross-sectional study, 490 participants from the West region of Cameroon underwent a…

  • The importance of wild meat and freshwater fish for children's nutritional intake in the Congo Basin

Open Access•Amy Ickowitz, Muhammad Faisal Pratama et al.•ARTICLE•People and Nature•2024

Wild meat and freshwater fish are widely consumed in the Congo Basin, but in some areas, they are at risk of disappearing due to unsustainable hunting and fishing and changes in their habitat. Wild meat is also at risk of being eliminated from local diets due to potential policy changes such as wild meat bans. In order to understand the impacts of these potential changes on nutrition and to design appropriate policies, it is critical to understan…

  • Tannins-enriched fraction of TeMacTM protects against aluminum chloride induced Alzheimer's disease-like pathology by modulating aberrant insulin resistance and alleviating oxidative stress in diabeti…

Open Access•Bruno Dupon Akamba Ambamba, Fils Armand Ella et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2024

  • Can wild forest foods contribute to food security and dietary diversity of rural populations adjoining forest concessions? Insights from Gabon, DR Congo and Cameroon

Open Access•Robert Fungo, Julius Chupezi Tieguhong et al.•ARTICLE•The International Forestry Review•2023

The potential of forest foods to address malnutrition, food insecurity and poor dietary intake is increasingly being recognized. However, most existing data presents average results of proximate analysis, overlooking the opportunities to document how forest foods contribute to nutrition, food security and dietary intake. In this study, food security was estimated using the HFIAS score while dietary intake was estimated using FFQ recalls among 720…

  • Glycaemic variations after administration of Irvingia gabonensis</I< seeds fractions in normoglycemic rats

Open Access•Judith Laure Ngondi, Zephyrin Fossouo et al.•ARTICLE•African Journal of Traditional…•2006

The action of Irvingia gabonensis seed fractions in reducing or slowing down the intestinal absorption of glucose was evaluated in normoglycaemic rats. The crude seeds (CS), the defatted seeds (DS) and the protein fraction (PF) were administered at dose of 400mg/ kg body weight to normoglycemic rats submitted to oral glucose test (OGTT) with glucose (2g/kg body weight). The results obtained show a significant reduction of the postprandial glucose…

  • Hypoglycaemic effect of the methanol extract of Irvingia gabonensis seeds on streptozotocin diabetic rats

Open Access•Judith Laure Ngondi, Emile Joachim Djiotsa et al.•ARTICLE•African Journal of Traditional…•2006

The hypoglycaemic effect of the methanol extract of Irvingia gabonensis seeds (Irvingiaceae) was examined in streptozotocin-diabetic rats. A single oral administration of the methanol extract at doses of 150 and 250mg/kg significantly (P < 0.001) lowered the plasma glucose levels in diabetic rats two hours after treatment. Keywords: hypoglycaemic effect, methanol extract, Irvingia gabonensis seeds, diabetic rats African Journal of Traditional, Co…
