  • Prehistoric “cooperative families”: Neolithic households between tradition and innovation

    Open Access•Boban Tripković•ARTICLE•Etnoantropološki problemi /…•2015

The beginning of production, private property and the division of labor are often distinguished as the socio-economic context for the earliest emergence of cooperative families. In this paper the phenomenon of large cooperative families in the neolithic is considered, as the neolithic is the start of production (the domestication of plants and animals) with implications of wider social significance. This paper indicates that a) large neolithic ho…

    Open Access•Boban Tripković•ARTICLE•Documenta Praehistorica•2011

Since Flannery, who showed that types and locations of storage facilities provide a variety of associations for explaining social change, the economic and social role of storage has been reviewed numerous times. • The origin and exchange of obsidian from Vinca-Belo Brdo

    Open Access•Boban Tripković, Marina Milić•ARTICLE•Starinar•2008•Cited by: 3•References: 4

Since the time of the revolutionary characterization of obsidian in the 1960's only a small number of artefacts from the Serbian sites have been analyzed, of which at least seven samples come from the site of Vinca. These results showed that obsidian was coming from Carpathian sources, disproving old romantic ideas of the existence of local obsidian sources in the central Balkans. These results allowed for the development of ideas about exchange …

  • Obsidian deposits in the central Balkans? Tested against archaeological evidence

    Open Access•Boban Tripković•ARTICLE•Starinar•2003•Cited by: 4•References: 5

Finds of obsidian artefacts on sites distant from the presumed primary source have often received a romantic note in the history of archaeology manifested in the idea about local exploitation as a form of procurement and archaeologists’ search for as yet undetected deposits of this raw material. In due course, such concepts have found their way into Serbian archaeology as well. The main objective of this contribution, therefore, is to reconsider …

Distribution of spondylus findings on prehistoric sites is remarkable and encompasses the whole European continent except West Mediterranean and North Europe. Approximately two hundred sites with spondylus findings are known in Europe ranging from the Early Neolithic to the Late Eneolithic. A long lasting interest for these findings results out of spondylusexotic origin as well as peculiarity of artifacts themselves that are mostly limited to dec…
