The Role of Derivational Morphology in Generative Grammar
The position taken in this paper is that significant progress in the study of semantics and phonology—and probably also of syntax—cannot be made without concomitant study of derivational morphology. Examples are given to support this position, and a proposal for directed research in derivational morphology is outlined. Various types of problems—some real and some apparent—are mentioned
Transitive Softening in Russian Conjugation
The use of the transformational cycle in phonology was first proposed by Halle 1963 in his treatment of Transitive softening in Russian conjugation. In this paper, we provide an analysis of transitive softening that does not require such a powerful device as the transformational cycle. In addition, the analysis proposed here appropriately characterizes productive and non-productive verb classes in Russian

On the use of minor rules in Russian phonology
Although this paper deals with Russian phonology, our aim is not to describe in detail any part of the phonological component of Russian (cf. Lightner, 1966 and forthcoming); rather, we are concerned here with demonstrating the explanatory adequacy of a modified framework of generative phonology
