  • Association of Vitamin D Knowledge, Behavior and Attitude with BMI Status among Arab Adults

    Open Access•Nasser M Al‐Daghri, Hanan Alfawaz et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

This study aims to investigate the association of vitamin D (VD) knowledge, behavior, and attitude with BMI status among Saudi adults. This cross-sectional online survey included a total of 774 participants (M/F: 239/535). Knowledge about the overall sources of VD was highest in OB participants in correctly identifying sunlight (95.1%; p p = 0.04) and fortified food (66.5%; p = 0.02). However, 18.9% of OB participants also wrongly identified air …

  • The association between iron and vitamin D status in Arab adolescents

    Open Access•Mohammad S Masoud, Sobhy M Yakout et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2020

Objective: Both vitamin D and Fe micronutrient deficiencies are common in Saudi Arabia but the association between them is unclear. The present study aimed to determine whether Fe indices are associated with vitamin D status and other metabolic markers in Arab adolescents. Design: Single-centre, cross-sectional study gathering anthropometrics, glucose and lipid profile. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), Fe, total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), …

  • Perceived Stress Scores among Saudi Students Entering Universities

    Open Access•Nasser M Al‐Daghri, Abdulaziz M Al-Othman et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2014

In this prospective study we wanted to determine whether perceived stress over time among students in the Preparatory Year of King Saud University (KSU) predisposes them to cardiometabolic abnormalities. A total of 110 apparently healthy Saudi students (35 men and 75 women enrolled during the 2010-2011 academic year) were included. Perceived stress was determined at baseline and 1 year later. Anthropometrics were obtained and morning fasting seru…

  • Stress and cardiometabolic manifestations among Saudi students entering universities

    Open Access•Nasser M Al-Daghri, Nasser M Al‐Daghri et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2014

Perceived stress is alarmingly high among Saudi students entering universities. This study sheds light on the social responsibility of universities in promoting a healthy lifestyle, particularly in this age group, when exposure to different kinds of stressors may result in body weight and metabolic changes

  • Lower vitamin D status is more common among Saudi adults with diabetes mellitus type 1 than in non-diabetics

    Open Access•Nasser M Al-Daghri, Nasser M Al‐Daghri et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2014

The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among DMT1 adults was relatively high. Therefore, screening for vitamin D deficiency and supplementation for this population should be warranted

  • Potential Changes in Rat Spermatogenesis and Sperm Parameters after Inhalation of Boswellia papyrifera and Boswellia carterii Incense

    Open Access•Mukhtar Ahmed, Nasser M Al‐Daghri et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2013

In this study the effect of Boswellia papyrifera (B. papyrifera) and Boswellia carterii (B. carterii) smoke exposure on spermatogenesis and sperm parameters in male albino rats was investigated. Rats (n = 11) were exposed daily in smoking chambers to smoke emanated by burning 4 g each of either B. papyrifera or B. carterii for 48 days. At the end of exposure duration rats were killed, and the testes were excised and analysed for histopathological…
