V članku so pregledane in komentirane pretekle raziskave glasovnih uresničitev fonema /ʋ/, ki bodo umeščene v sodobno situacijo. Dodatno je opravljena kontrastivna analiza slovničnega opisa, od metodoloških usmeritev in instrumentalnih meritev do pretekle ter še veljavne kodifikacije, ki temeljijo na opisu v Slovenski slovnici.
