This article explores the use of corpora in the language classroom including the use of online corpora, both of general English and English for academic purposes. Example activities are presented to further contextualize the use of corpora and corpus activities in English language classrooms. Expanding the scope of grammatical variation
Most studies of genitive variation in English have considered only the choice of two variants ( 's versus of ), based on analysis of only tokens that are judged to be interchangeable. Analysis of biased language in peer-reviewed scientific literature on genetically modified crops
Social, political, and economic forces may inadvertently influence the stance of scientific literature. Scientists strive for neutral language, but this may be challenging for controversial topics like genetically modified (GM) crops. We classified peer-reviewed journal articles and found that 40% had a positive or negative stance towards GM crops. Using a corpus-based register approach, this study explores language use of authentic and TV courtroom discourse through the lens of WH-questions, with a focus on direct and cross-examinations.
