Peter Drysdale, Shiro Armstrong•ARTICLE•China Economic Journal•2021•Cited by: 2

East Asia’s Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement was concluded in a time of heightened uncertainty in the global economy and in the middle of the largest economic downturn in almost a century from a pandemic-induced global recession. The agreement consolidated the 10 member ASEAN’s free trade agreements with Australia and New Zealand, and the three northeast Asian economic powers China, Japan and South Korea. RCEP's econom…

  • International Institutions and the Rise of A sia

    Open Access•Peter Drysdale, Sébastien Willis•ARTICLE•Asia & the Pacific Policy Studies•2014•References: 2

Importantly it extended most-favoured-nation status or non-discriminatory treatment beyond trade to all commercial dealings between Australia and Japan, including investment and migration and stay. It was a framework agreement that established a comprehensive basi…

  • Reflections on the relationship with Japan

    Peter Drysdale•ARTICLE•Japanese Studies•2004•References: 1

This paper considers the evolving Australia-Japan bilateral relationship. Key issues discussed include the 'drift' and 'neglect' in bilateral relations in the 1990s, the current state of the economic relationship, the proliferation of Free Trade Agreements and future directions. A central theme is the importance of bilateral ties for both countries and that shared visions such as building regional cooperation through APEC might be compromised by …
