  • Bmf upregulation through the AMP-activated protein kinase pathway may protect the brain from seizure-induced cell death

    Open Access•Igreja, C Moran et al.•ARTICLE•Cell Death & Disease•2013

Prolonged seizures (status epilepticus, SE) can cause neuronal death within brain regions such as the hippocampus. This may contribute to impairments in cognitive functioning and trigger or exacerbate epilepsy. Seizure-induced neuronal death is mediated, at least in part, by apoptosis-associated signaling pathways. Indeed, mice lacking certain members of the potently proapoptotic BH3-only subfamily of Bcl-2 proteins are protected against hippocam…

  • Positive reactions following emergency and disaster responses

Open Access•M Carmen Morán, C Moran et al.•ARTICLE•Disaster Prevention and…•1995

Firefighters completed a questionnaire which examined both positive and negative reactions following major call‐outs. Positive reactions were more frequently checked than negative ones. Factor analysis of positive reactions resulted in four factors, suggesting that positive reactions after a call‐out represented more than an increased sense of general wellbeing. The type of reactions reported were related to the type of incident attended. Differe…
