  • The Psychopathology of Worthlessness in Depression

Open Access•Phillippa Harrison, Andrew J Lawrence et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

This confirms the prediction of the revised learned helplessness model that worthlessness is most strongly linked to hopelessness and self-blame. In contrast, we did not find a strong and direct link between anhedonia items and a reduction in self-worth in either study. This supports worthlessness as a primary symptom rather than resulting from reduced positive affect

  • Altered body weight associated with substance abuse

Rose Crossin, Andrew J Lawrence et al.•ARTICLE•Addiction Research & Theory•2018

Background: Substance abuse can cause a range of harmful secondary health consequences, including body weight changes. These remain poorly understood but can lead to metabolic disorders including obesity and diabetes. Energy balance is a function of the equation: energy balance = energy intake – energy expenditure; an imbalance to this equation results in body weight changes. Currently, in the clinical setting, changes to food intake (energy inta…

We previously demonstrated that inhalant abuse (petrol sniffing) during adolescence results in impairments to height and weight. The aim of this study was to understand whether these impairments resolve or persist into early adulthood, following sustained abstinence. Methods: Baseline da…
