Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Walkability in the Main Urban Area of Xi’an
The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected the mobility of individuals everywhere. This has been especially true in China, where many restrictions, including lockdowns, have been widely applied. This paper discusses the impact of the pandemic on walkability, an important factor in promoting urban neighborhoods, in the main urban area of Xi’an, China, one of China’s four great ancient capitals. Based on the street view data obtained before and aft…
GWAS of 165,084 Japanese individuals identified nine loci associated with dietary habits
GWAS of smoking behaviour in 165,436 Japanese people reveals seven new loci and shared genetic architecture
Ethics in the Developing Economies of Asia
An attempt is made to explore a major issue in the context of marketization for economic growth in developing Southeast and South Asian countries. The paper questions the ethics of ignoring the non- market aspects in each area, region and culture, while forcing a universalist Western paradigm of growth economics. Reference is made to many social institutions and traditional practices which have evolved organically within these countries and are s…
Cross-sectional Properties of the Rat Femur as Influenced by Forced Running Exercise
Flattening of limb bones is not infrequent in prehistoric population as well as in modern hunter-gatherers. Platycnemia is well-documented in materials from Japanese prehistoric 'Jomon' period. Interpretation for the reason of this bony feature, however, is still controversial with respect to the mechanical stress due to a hard physical exercise or nutritional elements. This study aims at identifying the factors mainly responsible for the flatten…
Equipment to Detect the Perpendicular Line of Body Gravity Center in Relation to Body Segment
A new equipment to detect the perpendicular line of gravity center in the human body was designed by assembling mechanical, electrical and optical devices. The equipment shows immediately in situ the perpendicular line of the body gravity center on the surface of the body when the subject assumes an arbitrary posture. The equipment made experimentally by the present authors had a mean square error of 4mm in practical use. Observation was made pre…

Principal Pattern of the Dynamic Change in the Force of Human Foot during Walking
The dynamic force exerted by the foot to the level floor in walking was analysed in the present study. A special dynamometer was devised for the purpose. Ten subjects were examined during several kinds of walking. Changes in the sagittal, transverse and vertical components of the foot force and the shift of its point of application during the stance phase are recorded along with the postural change of the subject taken with the 16mm cine-camera.F…
Radiologic Study of the Carpal Angle in Japanese
The proximal carpal bones participating in the radio-carpal joint are arranged in the form of an arch. The proximal contour of this arch on roentgenograms was analysed quantitatively by KosowIcz (1962), who designated the "carpal angle" as follows : the angle of the intersection of two tangents, the first touching the proximal outline of the scaphoid and lunate and the second touching the triquetrum and lunate. According to his paper, the carpal …
