Episode-wide Maudsley staging in treatment-resistant depression
EW-MSM reflects clinical and treatment intensity aspects of resistance in depression more strongly and comprehensively than categorical outcomes. Therefore, it offers precision for staging and could be used to more efficiently investigate clinical, biological and psychological correlates of resistance
Treatment-resistant or difficult-to-treat depression
This is the first study to discuss and define the challenge of TRD/DTD in Greece and propose a structured pathway for its integrated management in the context of the Greek NHS, allowing for the country's geographic disparities, history of burden of mental health and socioeconomic specificities, including stigma surrounding a mental health diagnosis
Differential predictors of expressed emotion toward individuals with schizophrenia between families and halfway houses
Our findings suggest setting-specific pathogenetic pathways of EOI and might help customize psychoeducational interventions to staff in halfway houses
Smartwatch digital phenotypes predict positive and negative symptom variation in a longitudinal monitoring study of patients with psychotic disorders
Our findings suggest that distinct digital phenotypes derived passively from a smartwatch can predict variations in positive and negative dimensions of psychopathology of patients with psychotic disorders, over time, providing ground evidence for their potential clinical use
Attention for Emotion—How Young Adults With Neurodevelopmental Disorders Look at Facial Expressions of Affect
While Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Schizophrenia (SCZ) differ in many clinically relevant features such as symptomatology and course, they may also share genetic underpinnings, affective problems, deviancies in social interactions, and are all characterized by some kind of cognitive impairment. This situation calls for a joint investigation of the specifics of cognitive (dys-)functions of the…
Similar or Different Neuropsychological Profiles? Only Set Shifting Differentiates Women With Bipolar vs. Borderline Personality Disorder
There is ongoing debate about the similarities and differences between bipolar disorder (BD) and borderline personality disorder (BPD). Very few studies have concurrently assessed their neuropsychological profile and only on a narrow array of neuropsychological tests. We aimed to investigate the differences of these two patient groups on visual memory, executive function, and response inhibition. Twenty-nine BD patients, 27 BPD patients and 22 co…
Interleukin-1 Beta in Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell Lysates as a Longitudinal Biomarker of Response to Antidepressants
Interleukin-1 beta (IL1β) is primarily produced by monocytes in the periphery and the brain. Yet, IL1β protein levels have to date been investigated in major depressive disorder (MDD) and antidepressant response using either plasma or serum assays although with contradictory results, while mononuclear cell assays are lacking despite their extensive use in other contexts. In this pilot study, we comparatively assessed IL1β in mononuclear lysates a…
Comorbidity Matters
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) represent two common neurodevelopmental disorders with considerable co-occurrence. Their comorbidity (ASD + ADHD) has been included in the latest diagnostic guidelines (DSM-V, 2013). The present study focuses on social visual attention that i) is a main aspect of social attention reflecting social cognition and ii) its atypicalities have been suggested as a potenti…
Dissociating Slow Responses From Slow Responding
Increased Intra-Subject Variability (ISV) is a candidate endophenotype of ADHD. ISV's relationship with response speed is highly relevant for ADHD as patients are highly variable but typically no slower than controls. This brief report addresses the relationship between variability and speed by employing dimensional analyses for differentiated performance measures, with a particular focus on the ex-Gaussian measures, across relevant ADHD studies …
