Excess costs of depression among a population-based older adults with chronic diseases in Singapore
Depression was found to inflate the total healthcare expenditure among older adults with chronic disease by two-fold. This study provides evidence that there are significant incremental costs associated with depression among the older adults with chronic diseases, demonstrating a need for more resources to improve systematic and clinical care for depressed older adults with chronic diseases
Walrasian Equilibrium-Based Pricing Mechanism for Health-Data Crowdsensing Under Information Asymmetry
While prior studies have designed incentive mechanisms to attract the public to share their collected data, they tend to ignore information asymmetry between data requesters and collectors. In reality, the sensing costs information (time cost, battery drainage, bandwidth occupation of mobile devices, and so on) is the private information of collectors, which is unknown by the data requester. In this article, we model the strategic interactions be…
Explore the Characteristics of Destination Image in the New Era of Information Technology, Case of Online Travel Reviews
The follwing piece is based on the Lectio praecursoria presented at the defense of the doctoral dissertation ‘The Nature of Destination Image Concept in Online Travel Reviews’, which was publicly discussed on March 4, 2022, at the University of Eastern Finland. Application of Mobile Signaling Data in Determining the Seismic Influence Field
Seismic disasters are sudden and unpredictable, often causing massive damage, casualties and socioeconomic losses. Rapid and accurate determination of the scale and degree of destruction of the seismic influence field in an affected area can aid in timely emergency rescue work after an earthquake. In this study, the relationship between the changes in four types of mobile signaling data and the seismic influence field was explored in the 2017 Jiu…
Analysis of Heavy Metal Contamination of Agricultural Soils and Related Effect on Population Health—A Case Study for East River Basin in China
To understand the heavy metal pollution in agricultural soils along the East River basin and assess the pollution related health effect to local residents, interviews and archived data were obtained to identify the study sites affected by polluted tailing. Soil samples were collected and tested for heavy metal content and the Comprehensive Pollution Index (CPI). The degree of pollution of agricultural soils in the area was assessed using GIS-base…
Midlife Psychological Distress Associated With Late-Life Brain Atrophy and White Matter Lesions
OBJECTIVE: Long-standing psychological distress increases the risk of dementia, especially Alzheimer's disease. The present study examines the relationship between midlife psychological distress and late-life brain atrophy and white matter lesions (WMLs), which are common findings on neuroimaging in elderly subjects. METHODS: A population-based sample of 1462 women, aged 38 to 60 years, was examined in 1968, with subsequent examinations in 1974, …
