Innovation brokers in High Nature Value farming areas
High Nature Value (HNV) farmlands currently retain most of the biodiversity associated with agricultural landscapes in Europe. In a time of globalized food systems, the social-ecological conditions to maintain these low-intensity and thus less productive HNV farming systems are difficult to meet. Halting the loss of HNV farmland requires fostering the socioeconomic viability of HNV farming systems that is compatible with social, cultural, and eco…
Delivering too much, too little or off target—possible consequences of differences in perceptions on agricultural advisory services
Advisory services are considered to play an important role in the development of competitiveness and sustainability in agriculture. Advisory services have been studied at policy level, structural level and within case studies, but there is still restricted knowledge about advisors’ and farmers’ view on advisory services in general. This paper presents the views of Swedish advisors and farmers on advisory services. In a survey-based study, percept…
Safety on Passenger Ferries from Catering Staff’s Perspective
The majority of employees on passenger ferries consist of the catering staff: those who operate in restaurants, shops, and in the hotel on board. Research on this category is scant. The aim of this study is to investigate the catering staff’s experiences and perceptions of safety practice on board passenger ferries. The methods are semi-structured interviews and a qualitative content analysis of official documents and research articles. Results: …
Learning through feedback in the field
The article discusses an action research project conducted in the Upper Amazon region of Peru that focused on the working approach of a NGO partner called PRADERA. In its land management projects PRADERA’s working approach was characterized by a close collaboration with farmers. Its emphasis was on grasping the farmers’ perspective on agriculture, targeting of local institutions in the villages as natural arenas for learning, and including topics…
Social Sustainability and Collaborative Learning
The social dimension is central to sustainable development of agri-food systems. If farmers are not satisfied with their situation or motivated to continue farming, many of today's environmental goals will be impossible to achieve. Between 1997 and 2003, several case studies were carried out on social sustainability, the importance of recognition in the farming system, and the potential role of increased collaboration between actors. The main hyp…

Den kvinnliga kroppen och könets otaligas killnader
In this article I want to show how issues of the body have been neglected in social science. The gender concept, which has revolutionied feminist theory, is not adequate to explain identity processes. I mean that some theories of the french psychoanalysis have attracted many feminist researchers, because of a theoretical vacuum in theories of social constructionism. Instead of a polarization I will assert a dialectic between theories of social co…

The wodehouse effect
Discusses the distinction between transferred and non-transferred modifiers in constructions from P.G. Wodehouse. Similarity between the two sentence types best described by deriving both types from the same syntactic source; Humor of the wodehouse effect explained in a framework
Some Remarks on Antonymy
The notion of ‘antonymous adjective’, as used in recent and not-so-recent literature, is discussed here; and the criteria for antonymy suggested by different researchers are found to yield largely the same results. It is suggested that only noun-based adjectives can be ‘antonymous’, and that a useful delimitation of the term 'antonymous adjective can be achieved in terms of the inherentness of the underlying nouns: all scalar nouns taken to be in…
