  • Estimated number of people infected with hepatitis B and C virus in Germany in 2013

Open Access•Katrin Kremer-Flach, Ruth Zimmermann et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Introduction: Hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) viral infections are uncommon in Germany, though these infections have a higher prevalence among certain subpopulations, such as some first-generation migrant groups, people who inject drugs (PWID), and HIV-positive men who have sex with men (HIV+MSM). Repeated estimates of the number of people infected with HBV and HCV are essential to facilitate the monitoring and elimination efforts by 2030…

  • Changing socioeconomic inequalities in the incidence and case fatality rates of Covid-19 in Germany, March 2020 through May 2022

Open Access•Sarah C Kramer, Laura Andrea Barrero Guevara et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

The association between socioeconomic position and COVID-19 impact in Germany has been complex, with patterns changing in intensity and direction over time. Continued monitoring of socioeconomic inequalities in COVID-19 impact, in particular at the individual level, is needed to better understand if and how inequalities continue to persist. Such monitoring will be instrumental in informing more equitable control strategies

  • Increasing Number of Individuals Receiving Hepatitis B nucleos(t)ide Analogs Therapy in Germany, 2008–2019

Open Access•Anna Maisa, Christian Kollan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

Background: Germany is a low prevalence country for hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection with higher prevalence in vulnerable groups. The number of treated chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients is unknown. We aimed to determine the number of CHB patients treated with nucleos(t)ide analogs (NUCs), the treatment costs within the statutory health insurance (SHI) in Germany and per patient per month. Methods: Data on pharmacy bills of NUCs to patients with…

  • Estimates of global seasonal influenza-associated respiratory mortality

Open Access•A Danielle Iuliano, Katherine Roguski et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet•2018

  • Risk behaviours and viral infections among drug injecting migrants from the former Soviet Union in Germany

Open Access•Lineke Derks, Martyna Gassowski et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Drug…•2018

  • Determinants of HIV, viral hepatitis and STI prevention needs among African migrants in Germany; a cross-sectional survey on knowledge, attitudes, behaviors and practices

    Open Access•Claudia Hövener, Claudia Santos-Hövener et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

Study participants demonstrated good knowledge on HIV-transmission but knowledge gaps regarding HIV/STI-testing services, HEP and STI. This calls for targeted interventions providing more information about these topics in African communities in Hamburg and possibly also elsewhere

  • From pills to patients

Open Access•Daniel Schmidt, Christian Kollan et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

A substantial increase in the number of people receiving ART was observed from 2006 to 2013 in Germany

  • Characteristics and risk factors for symptomatic Giardia lamblia infections in Germany

Open Access•Werner Espelage, Matthias an der Heiden et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

A substantial proportion of Giardia lamblia cases in Germany are indigenously acquired. Symptomatic cases are significantly more likely to be immunocompromised than control persons from the general population. Physicians should consider Giardia infections among patients with no recent history of travel abroad, particularly if they have immune deficiencies. Green salads may be an important vehicle of infection. Information campaigns highlighting t…
