  • The relationship between demographics, behavioral and experiential engagement factors, and the use of artistic creative activities to regulate emotions

Open Access•Daisy Fancourt, Claire Garnett et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Aesthetics…•2025

There has been increasing interest in the role of artistic creative activities in supporting emotion regulation. However, there is little research about how demographic factors (such as age, gender, ethnicity, personality, and socioeconomic status) or factors relating to creative engagement (including engagement behaviors and subjective experience of engagement) influence our ability to use artistic creative activities to regulate our emotions. • Brief interventions for smoking and alcohol associated with the Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•Loren Kock, Lion Shahab et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

The receipt of BIs for smoking declined following March 2020 but rebounded among priority socioeconomic groups of people who smoked. BIs for alcohol among those who use alcohol at increasing and higher risk levels were low and there was no appreciable change over time. • Trends in alcohol expenditure among risky drinkers

Open Access•Sarah E Jackson, Melissa Oldham et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Drug…•2024

In England, the average amount adult risky drinkers reported spending on alcohol each week has fluctuated since 2014, with a notable decrease around the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and a subsequent rise since restrictions were lifted and since the cost-of-living crisis has led to high rates of inflation. Except for current smokers, this pattern appears to have been driven predominantly by changes in the price paid per unit rather than …

  • Perceived risk factors for severe Covid-19 symptoms and their association with health behaviours

Open Access•Aleksandra Herbeć, Jamie Brown et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2022

Risk perceptions are important influences on health behaviours. We used descriptive statistics and multivariable logistic regression models to assess cross-sectionally risk perceptions for severe Covid-19 symptoms and their health behaviour correlates among 2206 UK adults from the HEBECO study. The great majority (89-99%) classified age 70+, having comorbidities, being a key worker, overweight, and from an ethnic minority as increasing the risk. …

  • Exploring changes in temporary abstinence in increasing and higher risk drinkers in England and Dry January participation in users of the Try Dry app in the UK between 2020 and 2021

Open Access•Melissa Oldham, Inge Kersbergen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

Higher participation in Dry January 2021 relative to 2020 indicates increased engagement with a period of temporary abstinence following the COVID-19 related lockdowns in England and the UK, which is positive in the wider context of increasing alcohol consumption throughout the pandemic

  • Characterising the patterns of and factors associated with increased alcohol consumption since Covid ‐19 in a UK sample

Open Access•Melissa Oldham, Claire Garnett et al.•ARTICLE•Drug and Alcohol Review•2021

  • The impact of celebrity influence and national media coverage on users of an alcohol reduction app

Open Access•Claire Garnett, Olga Perski et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

Celebrity influence leading to national media coverage in the UK of the Drink Less app was associated with more people downloading the app who were male, older and engaged with the app; and did not appear to impact employment inequality

  • Evaluating the effectiveness of a smartphone app to reduce excessive alcohol consumption

Open Access•Claire Garnett, David Crane et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016
