  • Prevalence and correlates of suicidal ideation in the general public during the fifth wave of Covid-19 pandemic in Hong Kong

Open Access•Heidi Ka Ying Lo, Joe Kwun Nam Chan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

A significant proportion of people experienced suicidal ideation during the peak of fifth COVID-19 wave. Risk and protective factors identified would facilitate early identification of high-risk individuals and provision of targeted interventions to minimize suicidal ideation and risk of self-harm. Caution should be exercised due to study limitations of a cross-sectional design which precluded establishing causality among variables, and reliance …

  • Chemsex, HIV, and Psychiatric Diagnosis in Gay or Bisexual Men in Hong Kong

Krystal Chi Kei Lee, Albert K Chung et al.•ARTICLE•Substance Use & Misuse•2023

Background: Psychotropic substance use, for chemsex in particular, is common in gay or bisexual men (GBM) with HIV infection. This case-control study examined the association between Axis I psychiatric disorders and active psychotropic substance use, and identified factors affecting the prevalence of psychiatric disorders in HIV-infected GBM. Methods: Participants were 62 HIV-infected self-identified GBM who reported psychotropic substance use in…

  • Prevalence and correlates of subjective cognitive impairment in Chinese psychiatric patients during the fifth wave of Covid-19 in Hong Kong

Open Access•Vivian Shi Cheng Fung, Jacob Man Tik Chan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Almost half of the sample of psychiatric patients reported cognitive complaints during fifth-wave of COVID-19 in HK. Greater depressive and PTSD-like symptom severity, and maladaptive (avoidant) coping were found as correlates of SCI. COVID-19 related factors were not independently associated with SCI in psychiatric patients. Early detection with targeted psychological interventions may therefore reduce psychological distress, and hence self-perc…

  • Delineation of chemsex patterns of men who have sex with men in association with their sexual networks and linkage to HIV prevention

Open Access•Ngai Sze Wong, Tsz Ho Kwan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Drug…•2020

  • Institutional risk factors for norovirus outbreaks in Hong Kong elderly homes: A retrospective cohort study

Open Access•Hualiang Lin, Sammy Ng et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

Elderly home capacity, staff-to-resident ratio and wheelchair accessibility were risk factors for norovirus outbreaks in Hong Kong elderly homes. Partitions between beds were a protective factor of norovirus outbreaks. These results should be considered in the infection control in Hong Kong elderly homes

  • Profiling of HIV clinic patients to determine the prevalence and characteristics of recent infections

    W K Chan, G C Y Yuen et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2007

Patients newly attending the government HIV clinic in Hong Kong were studied for the prevalence and characteristics of recent HIV infection, which was defined as having a negative HIV antibody test and/or seroconversion illness within one year of a first positive antibody result. Fifty-nine (12.0%) of 492 HIV-positive patients first seen from 2001 to 2004 were determined to be recently infected. This likely represented the lower bound of the real…
