The 1927 Communist Uprising in Sumatra: A Reappraisal
The Indonesian Communist Party Central Committee, in its meeting at Prambanan in December 1925, called for its members to launch a nation-wide uprising against the Dutch.1 2 This rebellion against colonial rule was initially planned for July of 1926, but disagreements in the ranks of the Communist Party and counter measures by the Dutch government forced its postponement.The Party's former head, Tan Malaka, whom the Dutch had exiled in 1922, was …
