What’s wrong with “Death by Algorithm”? Classifying dignity-based objections to Laws
The rapid technological advancement of AI in the civilian sector is accompanied by accelerating attempts to apply this technology in the military sector. This study focuses on the argument that AI-equipped lethal autonomous weapons systems (LAWS) pose a threat to human dignity. However, the precise meaning of why and how LAWS violate human dignity is not always clear because the concept of human dignity itself remains ambiguous. Drawing on philos…
A threshold account of last resort in the ethics of war
This study aims to demonstrate the essential role that the condition of last resort plays in determining when waging war is exceptionally justified. In recent years, this condition has been criticised despite being considered an indispensable condition for just war. According to the commonly accepted Exhaustion View, the last resort occurs after all other options are exhausted. However, the categorical precedence of non-military measures may exac…

First, we can, and should, distinguish the Thucydidean “causal” conception of necessity, which is the basis for just war thinkers when they attack realist thought, from the Machiavellian “telic” conception. The paper, then, proceeds t…
Political Theorizing and Policy Implications
This article provides a philosophical foundation for the legitimacy of multicultural education by developing the analyses of Rawlsian political philosophy. For Rawls the most important primary good is that of self-respect, and this can be reinterpreted to make a convincing argument for multicultural education, provided that it has a strong connection to cultural minorities' sense of self-respect. After clarifying this connection, this article add…
