  • Stationarity and Non-Stationarity in Immigrant Problem Discourse: The Politics of Migrant Youth

Open Access•Yngve Georg Lithman, Yngve Lithman•ARTICLE•Nordic Journal of Migration…•2011•References: 2

This article dissects debates about the 'immigrant youth' over time, using the difference between stationary and non-stationary processes as the primary analytical tool. Using Sweden as an example, we show that the Swedish debate for decades was non-stationary, basically consisting of a number of independent and largely uncorrelated debates. The shortcomings of this approach are discussed with reference to the shape of immigration-related soci…

In this article, the entrepreneurship of a family that has stood b…

Two epistemological roots are traced for the social sciences, one related to wonderment over how society is possible, the other to their auxiliary role in the political-administrative system. The conflict between these epistemological traditions, it is argued, has had beneficial effects upon the social sciences. In the scholarship about multicultural societies, it is shown that these two epistemological traditions result in very different account…

Keywords: sport, aesthetics, ritual, holism, anthropology at home IntroductionSport can be seen as a prism through which major social and cultural tendencies in societies manifest themselves. Yet through features such as its collectivistic rituals and embodiment practices, it also serves as a field of meaning-creation. Sport, thus, is both reflective of society and a force in society. From such a perspective, sport has similarities with many them…
