Social media use and depression among middle-aged and older Chinese adults
Background Most research on social media use and depression has focused on young adults. A few studies in middle-aged and older Chinese adults have reported a negative association, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted among middle-aged and older adults ( n = 2,743) in five cities of Hainan Province, China. Participants completed the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, the Social Media Use Integr…
Work–family conflict and depression among Chinese working women
Objective Based on conservation of resources theory, this study aimed to examine the relationship between work–family conflict (WFC) and depression among Chinese working women. It also explored the mediating role of anxiety and the moderating roles of motherhood status and parenting stage. Background WFC is a common stressor among working women. However, research on the relationship between WFC and depression among Chinese working women is limite…
The relationship between early childhood development and feeding practices during the dietary transitional period in rural China
Introduction: Early childhood feeding environments and practices not only affect children's nutritional status but also provide children with a variety of external stimulations to affect the development of the child's brain, especially for the first 1,000 days of children. The relationship between early childhood development (ECD) and feeding practices during the dietary transitional period has not previously been described. Method: This study us…
The relationship between unhealthy lifestyle patterns and depressive symptoms among residents in Beijing, China
Introduction: Depression is a prevalent mental disorder that has an irreversible impact on people's health status. Unhealthy lifestyles are modifiable and influence mental health significantly. The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of different unhealthy lifestyles and their patterns on depressive symptoms. Methods: The data for this study were obtained from the 2017 Community Diagnostic survey in Daxing District, Beijing. It was a …
Correlation analysis between physical activity and depressive tendencies among occupational groups
Prolonged SB is common in the current workplace in China. Replacing an average of 30 min per day of SB with VPA and MPA, even walking is associated with less depression among workers. In addition, insufficient daily sleep is also an important risk factor for workers' depressive tendencies. These findings provide valuable evidence to promote mental health among occupational groups and support the development of healthy workplaces
Quantifying Urban Expansion from the Perspective of Geographic Data
Understanding and quantifying urban expansion is critical to urban management and urban planning. The accurate delineation of built-up areas (BUAs) is the foundation for quantifying urban expansion. To quantify urban expansion simply and efficiently, we proposed a method for delineating BUAs using geographic data, taking Guangzhou as the study area. First, Guangzhou’s natural cities (NCs) in 2014 and 2020 were derived from the point of interest (…
The association of workplace smoke-free policies on individual smoking and quitting-related behaviours
Our study identified that although most companies had established workplace SF policies, the overall prevalence of SHS exposure remained very high. Workplace SF policy is associated with lower SHS exposure, lower overall current smoking and higher awareness of smoking harm. These findings provide valuable evidence to promote such policies in all workplaces
Generalized Simulation Model for a Switched-Mode Power Supply Design Course Using Matlab/Simulink
Switched-mode power supplies (SMPS) are becoming an essential part of many electronic systems as the industry drives toward miniaturization and energy efficiency. However, practical SMPS design courses are seldom offered. In this paper, a generalized MATLAB/SIMULINK modeling technique is first presented. A proposed practical SMPS design course at Lunghua University, Taiwan, which incorporates this technique, is then described. In order to validat…
