  • Fire History Across Forest Types in the Southern Beartooth Mountains, Wyoming

Sabrina R Brown, Ashley Baysinger et al.•ARTICLE•Tree-Ring Research•2020

Fire is a critical ecosystem process that has played a key role in shaping forests throughout the Beartooth Mountains in northwestern Wyoming. The highly variable topography of the area provides ideal conditions to compare fire regimes across contiguous forest types, yet pyro-dendrochronological research in this area is limited. We reconstructed fire frequency, tree age structure, and post-fire tree growth response in the Clarks Fork Ranger Distr…

  • A 900-yr diatom and chrysophyte record of spring mixing and summer stratification from varved Lake Mina, west-central Minnesota, USA

    Open Access•Jeannine‐Marie St Jacques, Jeannine-Marie St Jacques et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2009•References: 4

A high-resolution, independent pollen-inferred paleoclimate record and direct algal seasonality data from the actual time of sediment deposition are used to interpret the high-resolution diatom and chrysophyte record of varved Lake Mina, west-central Minnesota, USA during AD 1116—2002. This direct algal seasonality information was obtained by splitting varves into constituent winter-spring and summer lamina, and separately analyzing the siliceous…

  • Lateglacial and Holocene paleoenvironmental changes recorded in lake sediments, Brock Plateau (Melville Hills), Northwest Territories, Canada

    Open Access•Kathleen M Rühland, Kathleen Rühland et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2009•References: 13

Sediments from South Lake, Brock Plateau (Melville Hills), Northwest Territories, provide one of the longest postglacial records from the mainland western Canadian Arctic, outside of eastern Beringia. Sedimentation commenced at least 13 900 cal. yr BP, and possibly as early as 16 000 cal. yr BP, in response to early deglaciation of the site. Pollen is present throughout the record, with an initial Artemisia-Salix assemblage indicative of very col…
