  • Gaps and Opportunities in Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research Training

Open Access•MICHAEL AULT, Michael K Ault et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Research on…•2026

Training in responsible and ethical conduct of research (RECR) is essential for fostering a strong research culture. We surveyed faculty, students, and research staff at R1/R2 and primarily undergraduate institutions (PUIs) to assess practices in mentoring, administrative support, grant writing, and project management. While many institutions provide formal education in research ethics and grant writing, major gaps persist in mentoring, grant imp…

  • A 1,500-year synthesis of wildfire activity stratified by elevation from the U.S. Rocky Mountains

    Open Access•Vachel A Carter, Mitchell J Power et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2018

  • Modern pollen from small hollows reflects Athrotaxis cupressoides density across a wildfire gradient in subalpine forests of the Central Plateau, Tasmania, Australia

    Open Access•Jesse L Morris, P E Higuera et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2017•References: 8

Pollen assemblages from 50 small hollows were used to resolve fire-caused vegetation patterns in a ~2-km 2 subalpine landscape on the Central Plateau of Tasmania, Australia. Sites were characterized by varying abundance of the dominant tree species, Athrotaxis cupressoides, reflecting mortality from a wildfire that occurred 53 years prior to sampling. Sites were classified a priori based on fire-related Athrotaxis mortality as burned (100% standi…

  • How can pollen and geochemical evidence from lake sediments provide context for the climate-mediated bark beetle outbreak occurring in Western North America

    Open Access•Jesse L Morris, Peter C le Roux et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2015

  • Do bark beetle remains in lake sediments correspond to severe outbreaks? A review of published and ongoing research

    Open Access•Jesse L Morris, C J Courtney Mustaphi et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2015

  • Using fire regimes to delineate zones in a high-resolution lake sediment record from the western United States

    Open Access•Jesse L Morris, Andrea Brunelle et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2013

Paleoenvironmental reconstructions are important for understanding the influence of long-term climate variability on ecosystems and landscape disturbance dynamics. In this paper we explore the linkages among past climate, vegetation, and fire regimes using a high-resolution pollen and charcoal reconstruction from Morris Pond located on the Markagunt Plateau in southwestern Utah, USA. A regime shift detection algorithm was applied to background ch…

  • Holocene vegetation and disturbance reconstructions from the transition region of the Great Basin and Colorado plateau in Utah, USA

    Open Access•Jesse L Morris, Andrea R Brunelle et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2013

  • Holocene vegetation and fire reconstructions from the Aquarius Plateau, Utah, USA

    Open Access•Jesse L Morris, Andrea Brunelle et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2013

  • The European Modern Pollen Database (EMPD) project

    Open Access•Basil Davis, Basil A S Davis et al.•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•2013•Cited by: 16•References: 13

  • Pollen accumulation in lake sediments during historic spruce beetle disturbances in subalpine forests of southern Utah, USA

    Open Access•Jesse L Morris, Andrea Brunelle•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2012•Cited by: 1•References: 9

Paleoecological reconstructions using lake sediments provide important information about ecological dynamics and forest disturbance processes that occurred prior to the historic period of scientific observation. In high-altitude and high-latitude ecosystems where landscape-scale disturbances recur at time intervals exceeding observation in many regions, e.g. western North America, reconstructed environmental data are essential in providing contex…
