Unveiling the climate type shifts: The dominant role of anthropogenic activities
The association between digital technology use and depression among older people in China: A moderated mediation model
Multidimensional digital technology use showed an association with depression in older adults. Promoting social participation through digital technology use is associated with lower depressive symptom scores, and vigorous PAL further strengthens this association, leading to improved mental health
Association of daily step counts and intensity in obesity among older Chinese women: A cross-sectional study
Higher daily step counts and intensity appear associated with a lower risk of obesity, although daily step counts is not associated with BMI. For women aged 60-70, aiming for over 9,135 steps/day is suggested. Adjusting step counts and intensity according to individual circumstances is advisable
The relationship between accelerometer-based physical activity, sedentary behavior, and seven common geriatric syndromes: A two-sample Mendelian randomization study
Introduction To investigate the causal associations between accelerometer-based physical activity (PA), sedentary behavior (SB), and seven common geriatric syndromes (GSs) (frailty, falls, delirium, urinary incontinence, dysphagia, hearing loss, and visual impairment) by Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. Methods Instrumental variables from a genome-wide association study were used for MR analysis. The exposure factors were three PA phenotype…
Associations between accelerometer-measured physical activity and sedentary behaviour with physical function among older women: A cross-sectional study
A significant association was observed between poorer lower limb function and prolonged, uninterrupted SB in older women, rather than with the total SB time. Concurrently, the insufficient engagement in MVPA may also be a crucial factor contributing to poorer PF in older women. Engaging in longer durations and higher intensity of PA, such as bouts of MVPA lasting a minimum of 10 min or longer, may contribute to better PF
Reallocating Time Spent in Physical Activity, Sedentary Behavior and Its Association with Fear of Falling: Isotemporal Substitution Model
The aim of the current study was to provide new evidence for the associations between physical activity (PA), sedentary behavior (SB), and fear of falling (FOF) by investigating the impact of replacing 30 min SB with both light-intensity PA (LPA) and moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) on FOF in older Chinese women. Cross-sectional data from a Physical Activity and Health in Older Women Study (PAHIOWS) were analyzed for 1114 Chinese community-dwelling…
Brain Functional Connectivity in Middle-Aged Hong Chuan Tai Chi Players in Resting State
Tai Chi is an effective strategy for slowing cognitive decline, although the underlying mechanism remains unclear. We designed a cross-sectional study to examine brain functional connectivity in middle-aged Hong Chuan Tai Chi practitioners. Eighteen middle-aged Hong Chuan Tai Chi practitioners and 22 age-matched Tai Chi-naïve controls completed functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) tests to evaluate oxyhemoglobin changes in the prefrontal…
High risk of growth cessation of planted larch under extreme drought
Larch trees are widely used in afforestation and timber plantations. Yet, little is known on how planted larch trees cope with increasing drought. We used a tree-ring network of 818 trees from 31 plantations spanning most of the distribution of Larix principis-rupprechtii to investigate how extreme drought influences larch radial growth in northern China. We found that summer drought, rather than temperature or precipitation, had the strongest re…
Tree-ring based precipitation variability since AD 1828 in northwestern Liaoning, China
Extension of summer (June–August) temperature records for northern Inner Mongolia (1715–2008), China using tree rings
