Megafaunal Extinctions in South America
Repetitive discussions about the late Pleistocene mega-mammal extinctions in South America are usually focused on human and climatic causes. However, what is really needed is not the capacity to discern between these two alternative views but a clear understanding about what sites or assemblages can be used in those discussions. The uneven quality of the data published for the sites involved in these discussions is one obstacle for most discussio…
Fell Cave Reinterpreted
Since first excavated by Junius Bird in 1936-1937, Fell Cave has been a key site for understanding the process of human peopling of Fuego-Patagonia. The recovery of extinct faunal remains in association with hearths and fishtail projectile points -now known to be diagnostic of early occupations- suggested to Bird that the deposits dated to the Late Pleistocene age of the deposits, which was later confirmed by radiocarbon dating. A rock fall appar…

Cueva del Milodón. The hunting grounds of the Patagonian panther
Climate change, availability of territory, and Late Pleistocene human exploration of Ultima Esperanza, South Chile
Archaeological discontinuity in Ultima Esperanza: A supra-regional overview
Ranked habitats and the process of human colonization of South America
Taphonomic observations on ground sloth bone and dung from Cueva del Milodón, Ultima Esperanza, Chile: 100 Years of Research History
Ground sloths and humans in southern Fuego-Patagonia: Taphonomy and Archaeology
An evaluation of Late Pleistocene interactions between ground sloths and humans in the Fuego-Patagonia of Chile and Argentina is presented. Aspects of ground sloth taphonomy are explored, particularly the difficulties of using cut-mark and breakage evidence to recognize human exploitation. Selective transport of large animal bones is also reviewed in regards to its use as a marker of human exploitation of ground sloths. An evaluation of the relev…

Explorando La Variabilidad Del Registro Arqueológico Y Tafonómico en Pali-Aike (Chile) a Través De La Búsqueda De Registros Pleistocenos a Cielo Abierto
