  • Years of land subsidence at Lipari Island (Italy)

Open Access•Marco Anzidei, Alessandro Bosman et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2026

  • Geohazard features of the Eastern Sicily

Open Access•Francesco Latino Chiocci, Andrea Argnani et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2025

Eastern Sicily is characterised by fast tectonic uplift, intricate GPS-derived velocity fields, and significant seismic activity. Mount Etna, the largest subaerial active volcano in Europe, dominates the landscape, influencing the development of large-scale instability processes on the facing continental margin. South of Etna, the Malta Escarpment discloses crustal thinning, with active tectonics, extensional faults, and half grabens. Indications…

  • Geohazard features of the north-western Sicily and Pantelleria

Open Access•Attilio Sulli, Marilena Calarco et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2024

We present maps of geohazard features identified across north-western Sicily and Pantelleria in the framework of the Magic project (MArine Geohazard along Italian Coasts), which involved Italian marine geological researchers in 2007-2013. These seafloor features were recognized using high-resolution bathymetry data and rely on the morphological expression of the seafloor and shallow sub-surface processes. The north-western Sicily is a complex con…

  • Geohazard features of the Gulf of Taranto

Open Access•Silvia Ceramicola, Maria Rosaria Senatore et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2024

Here, we explore the complex seabed morphologies of the Gulf of Taranto in southern Italy including their connection to the geodynamic evolution of the region that began during the Neogene period when the Adria plate started subducting beneath the retreating Calabrian arc. We compiled the first Maps of the Geohazard Features of the Gulf of Taranto through comprehensive and collaborative high-resolution seabed surveys, integrating regional high-re…

  • Geohazard features of the Gulf of Naples and Pontine Islands (Eastern Tyrrhenian Sea)

    Open Access•Francesca Budillon, E Martorelli et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2024

In this paper, we describe the geohazard-related elements of the Eastern Tyrrhenian Sea continental margin, situated between the 40° and 41° North latitude. These features were recognised principally through morphological analysis. The investigation utilized medium – and high-resolution digital models of the submarine landscape, produced within the framework of the Magic project (Marine Geohazard along Italian Coasts), and primarily focusing on t…

  • Geohazard features of the Tyrrhenian Calabria

Open Access•Daniele Casalbore, Alessandro Conforti et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2024

This paper accompanies the Maps of Geohazard features of the Cilento and the Calabro-Tyrrhenian continental margin in the southern Tyrrhenian Sea (Italy). The main geohazard-related features were derived from extensive seafloor mapping through the collection of high-resolution multibeam data acquired during several oceanographic cruises. They encompass many fluids seepage features, fault scarps, landslides scars, gullies, channels, and canyons. H…

  • Geohazard features of the Aeolian Island slopes and the North-Eastern Sicily offshore

Open Access•Fabiano Gamberi, Daniele Casalbore et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2024

The MaGIC project (Marine Geohazard along the Italian Coasts) had the aim of mapping the geohazard in the Italian seas and resulted in the production of numerous maps covering parts of the Italian Seas. In this paper, we present the maps: ‘The submerged portions of the Aeolian volcanic islands and the north-eastern Sicilian margin’, located in the south-eastern Tyrrhenian Sea. Both areas are affected by active geological processes, which represen…

  • Morphology of Salina offshore (Southern Tyrrhenian Sea)

Open Access•Daniele Casalbore, Alessandro Bosman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2016

In this paper, we present the first complete morphological map of the Salina offshore at a scale of 1:100,000. The submarine flanks of the Salina edifice extend down to −650 to −1300 m, are steep and characterized by an uneven morphology due to the presence of volcanic and erosive-depositional features. The volcanic features cover ∼30% of the submarine portion and include volcanic cones and bedrock outcrops. The remaining ∼70% is affected by a wi…

  • Morphology of Lipari offshore (Southern Tyrrhenian Sea)

Open Access•Daniele Casalbore, Alessandro Bosman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2016

High-resolution multibeam bathymetry was recently collected around Lipari, the largest and most densely populated island of the Aeolian Archipelago (Southern Tyrrhenian Sea). The data were acquired within the context of marine geological studies performed in the area over the last 10 years. We present the first detailed morphological map of the Lipari offshore at 1:100,000 scale (Main Map). A rugged morphology characterizes the submarine portions…

  • New insights on the subsidence of Lipari island (Aeolian islands, southern Italy) from the submerged Roman age pier at Marina Lunga

Open Access•Marco Anzidei, Alessandro Bosman et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2016
