Exploring the motives for drinking less alcohol and attitudes towards abstinence in individuals with low-to-moderate alcohol use – a mixed-methods study
The study was preregistered on the Open Science Framework, reviewed and approved by the ethics committee of the University Medicine Greifswald (BB 034/22), and conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. All participants provided written informed consent prior to participation, including consent for the anonymized publication of their data
Educational inequalities in trajectories of co-occurring behavioral health risk factors over four years
This study demonstrates heterogeneity in BRF trajectories and their relation to education. Although higher-educated persons were more likely in classes with fewer BRFs and favorable BRF changes, alcohol consumption remained a common BRF in several of these trajectories. Trajectories of multiple co-occurring BRFs, particularly those involving tobacco smoking and unfavorable BRF changes, seem to disproportionately affect lower-educated persons
General hospital patients’ attitude towards systematic health risk behavior screening and intervention
ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT05365269 on May 9, 2022
Three-year trajectories of alcohol use among at-risk and among low-risk drinkers in a general population sample of adults
Background Few studies have assessed trajectories of alcohol use in the general population, and even fewer studies have assessed the impact of brief intervention on the trajectories. Especially for low-risk drinkers, it is unclear what trajectories occur, whether they benefit from intervention, and if so, when and how long. The aims were first, to identify alcohol use trajectories among at-risk and among low-risk drinkers, second, to explore pote…
The Role of Tobacco Smoking in the Efficacy of Brief Alcohol Intervention
This study investigated whether tobacco smoking affected outcomes of brief alcohol interventions (BAIs) in at-risk alcohol-drinking general hospital patients. Between 2011 and 2012 among patients aged 18−64 years, 961 patients were allocated to in-person counseling (PE), computer-based BAI containing computer-generated individual feedback letters (CO), and assessment only. PE and CO included contacts at baseline, 1, and 3 months. After 6, 12, 18,…
Health Risk Behavior Patterns in a National Adult Population Survey
Background : The aim of this paper is to analyze the co-occurrence of health risk behaviors (HRBs), namely, tobacco smoking, alcohol risk drinking, overeating, and physical inactivity, as well as their 16 combinations (patterns), which are stratified by age and gender. Methods : The data of 19,294 study participants, from a telephone survey among the adult general population of Germany that was conducted in 2012, were analyzed. Results : In adult…
Proactive expert system intervention to prevent or quit at-risk alcohol use (PRINT)

Health risk factors and self-rated health among job-seekers
Prevention efforts to reduce health risk factors and to increase health among job-seekers are needed, and job agencies appear a feasible setting for their implementation
