  • Understanding visual search in graphical user interfaces

Open Access•Aini Putkonen, Yue Jiang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025

How do we find items within graphical user interfaces (GUIs)? Current understanding of this issue relies on studies using symbol matrices, natural scenes, and other non-GUI stimuli. To understand whether the effects discovered in those environments extend to mobile, desktop, and web interfaces, this paper reports on visual search performance and eye movements with 900 real-world GUIs. In an eye-tracking study, participants ( N = 84 ) were given a…

  • Healthcare needs and barriers to care among female partners of male suspects of child sexual abuse material offences in Sweden

Open Access•Roberth Adebahr, Josephine Savard et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

Female partners of CSAM offenders have healthcare needs that are currently inadequately met by the Swedish healthcare system. Healthcare professionals, both in primary care and sexual medicine clinics, may significantly contribute to improving treatment for this population. However, there is a need for improvement of healthcare practitioners' knowledge of the experiences and needs of family members of sexual offenders

  • Accumulated lifetime violence load and interpersonal problems among suicidal women with emotionally unstable personality disorder

Open Access•Fredrik Gustafsson, Adrian E Desai Boström et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

Specific Interpersonal problems and low functioning seem to be associated with cumulative lifetime violence burden among suicidal women with EUPD. These interpersonal traits may serve as key targets for treatment and prevention

  • A randomized controlled add-on trial of fluoxetine and cognitive behavioral therapy for help-seeking men with a sexual interest in children

Open Access•Roberth Adebahr, Katarina Görts Öberg et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

This is the first RCT of treatment with SSRI and iCBT in a population of help-seeking men with SIC. The significance of this trial and its methodological strengths and limitations are discussed

  • Structural brain differences related to compulsive sexual behavior disorder

Open Access•Per Görts, Josephine Savard et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Behavioral Addictions•2023

  • Neural and behavioral correlates of sexual stimuli anticipation point to addiction-like mechanisms in compulsive sexual behavior disorder

Open Access•Benny Liberg, Katarina Görts-Öberg et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Behavioral Addictions•2022

  • Learning to type with mobile keyboards

Open Access•Xinhui Jiang, Jussi Jokinen et al.•ARTICLE•Computers in Human Behavior•2022

This paper demonstrates the learning process of typing by tracing the development of eye and finger movement strategies over time. We conducted a controlled experiment in which users typed with Qwerty and randomized keyboards on a smartphone, allowing us to induce and analyze users’ behavioral strategies with different amounts of accumulated typing experience. We demonstrate how strategies, such as speed-accuracy trade-offs and gaze deployment be…

  • Impulsivity in Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder and Pedophilic Disorder

Open Access•Josephine Savard, Tatja Hirvikoski et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Behavioral Addictions•2021

  • Adaptive feature guidance

Open Access•Jussi Jokinen, Zhenxin Wang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

We present a computational model of visual search on graphical layouts. It assumes that the visual system is maximising expected utility when choosing where to fixate next. Three utility estimates are available for each visual search target: one by unguided perception only, and two, where perception is guided by long-term memory (location or visual feature). The system is adaptive, starting to rely more upon long-term memory when its estimates im…

  • Exposure to Early Life Adversity and Interpersonal Functioning in Attempted Suicide

Open Access•Mia Rajalin, Tatja Hirvikoski et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Patients with a recent suicide attempt with high levels of early life adversity tend to isolate themselves, of being introvert, and having difficulties to open up and confide in others. They report low self-confidence and self-esteem and problems with feeling and expressing anger. These behaviors complicate interaction with others and make establishment of solid relationships more difficult. In regards to detection of suicidal communication and t…

  • Acceptance and commitment therapy for autistic adults

Open Access•Johan Pahnke, Tatja Hirvikoski et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Contextual Behavioral…•2019

  • Adolescent criminality

Open Access•Marlene Stenbacka, Tomas Moberg et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

Men with adolescent criminality received more inpatient care due to alcohol and drug related diagnoses and attempted suicide as adults. Mortality due to unnatural causes, alcohol, and drug related diagnoses, suicide and accidents was most evident in violent offenders, while these causes of death were much lower in non-criminals. Men with adolescent criminality are a high-risk group for multiple adverse health outcomes and for early death. Efforts…

  • Mortality and causes of death among violent offenders and victims-a Swedish population based longitudinal study

Open Access•Marlene Stenbacka, Tomas Moberg et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

Violent offending and being victimized are associated with excess mortality and a risk of dying from an alcohol or drug-related cause or suicide. Consequently, prevention of violent behavior might have an effect on overall mortality and suicide rates. Prevention of alcohol and drug use is also warranted
