Riverine Cultural Landscape of the Jizera River, Czech Republic, from the Perspective of Archaeology and Hydrology. An Interdisciplinary Study of Archaeological Sites in Relation to Watercourses Using…
The article summarises the results of a pilot project that investigated the riverine cultural landscape of the Jizera River, primarily focusing on the correlation between archaeological structures and the river’s watercourse. The authors have demonstrated a novel integration of archaeology, hydrology and some geophysical prospection methods, which together have enabled the delineation of potential areas for identifying sites of significant archae…
Recording Submerged Palaeocoastlines in Cyprus
This research examines the coastal landscape of the Ceramic Neolithic site of Paralimni Nissia, Cyprus. Based on bathymetric data, geomorphological observations and an underwater survey, five possible palaeocoastlines were identified. Two of them, at –2.0 ± 0.10 m and –5.45 ± 0.25 m, are supported by multiple geomorphological features and are considered the most reliable indicators of past shorelines. When adjusted for estimated tectonic uplift, …
D visualisation of an archaeological site
The paper discusses using three-dimensional (3D) models in archaeological research and their combination for four-dimensional (4D) visualisation. The acquisition of 3D models during an archaeological excavation provides high-accuracy records of sites, entire find situations, and individual archaeological features or finds, allowing for their further exploration, study, and analysis at any time. When combined with GIS, 3D models can allow spatial …
