Long-term distress throughout one’s life
Introduction Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a rare genetic disorder, with lack of evidence of disease burden in China. We aimed to describe the economic burden, health-related quality of life (HRQL), and caregiver burden of NF1 patients in China. Methods We conducted an online cross-sectional survey employing the China Cloud Platform for Rare Diseases, with 223 caregivers of NF1 pediatric patients (patients under 18), and 226 adult patients. E…
Comparison of anthropometric parameters and laboratory test results before and after the Covid-19 outbreak among Chinese children aged 3–18 years
Objective To compare the physiological health of Chinese children around the COVID-19 lockdown. Methods We extracted data on children's anthropometric and laboratory parameters from May to November in both 2019 and 2020 from the Health Checkup Center, Children's Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China. Overall, 2162 children aged 3~18 years without comorbidities in 2019 and 2646 in 2020 were assessed. Mann Whitney U test…
Association between ambient cold exposure and mortality risk in Shandong Province, China
Introduction: Numerous studies have reported the modification of particulate matters (PMs) on the association between cold temperature and health. However, it remains uncertain whether the modification effect may vary by size of PMs, especially in Shandong Province, China where the disease burdens associated with cold temperature and PMs are both substantial. This study aimed to examine various interactive effects of cold exposure and ambient PMs…
Health-related quality of life of children with Williams syndrome and caregivers in China
Introduction Williams syndrome (WS) is a rare genetic disorder that impacts multiple systems and may cause developmental delays. These medical and developmental issues impose a heavy burden on affected children and their families. However, there was no study on children’s health-related quality of life (HRQoL) with WS and only two studies about family quality of life globally. Therefore, the primary purpose of this study was to assess the HRQoL o…
Lack of functional brain connectivity was associated with poor inhibition in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder using near-infrared spectroscopy
The present study demonstrated that children with ADHD had relatively low connectivity in several brain regions measured at the resting state. Our results supported the evidence that lack of functional brain connectivity was associated with impaired inhibition function in children with ADHD
Determinants of depression, problem behavior, and cognitive level of adolescents in China
Multiple associated factors were identified for depression, problem behavior, and cognition of Chinese adolescents, which will provide insights into developing more targeted public health policies and interventions to improve their mental health
The association between parental risks and childhood development
Parental risks are prevalent among children under three years in rural East China, which may increase the risk of developmental delays in children. Meanwhile, parental risk screening can be used to recognize poor nurturing care in primary health care settings. Targeted interventions are warranted to improve nurturing care for optimal early childhood development
Validity and Reliability of the Parental Health Literacy Questionnaire for Caregivers of Children Aged 0 to 3 Years in China
Caregivers' health literacy plays a vital role in the quality of parenting and significantly impacts children's physical and psychological health. However, the instruments to assess the health literacy of caregivers of children aged 0 to 3 years are lacking. This study aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese Parental Health Literacy Questionnaire (CPHLQ) in China. We conducted a cross-sectional study. Six hundred and thirty-…
Associations between Maternal Health-Related Quality of Life during Pregnancy and Birth Outcomes
The objective of this study was to assess associations between maternal health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in early, mid-, and late pregnancy and birth outcomes and to assess the differences in birth outcomes between subgroups of mothers reporting relatively "low" and relatively "high" HRQoL. HRQoL was measured by the 12-item Short Form Health Survey in early (n = 6334), mid- (n = 6204), and late pregnancy (n = 6048) in a population-based mot…
Determinants of Maternal Health-Related Quality of Life after Childbirth
Having good health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is essential, particularly for women after childbirth. However, little is known about its determinants. We aimed to identify the determinants of HRQoL after childbirth in a large community sample in the Netherlands. We have included 4312 women in the present study. HRQOL was assessed by a 12-Item Short Form Survey (SF-12) at around two months after childbirth; Physical and Mental Component Summar…
