Unlocking dynamic capabilities in the Scotch whisky industry, 1945–present
In this article we examine the development of the Scotch whisky industry since 1945 through the lens of dynamic capabilities. We explain how sui generis acts-novel initiatives outwith the established repertoire of practices of a firm or industry-by external actors joining the industry helped unlock dynamic capabilities at the firm level in the industry which in turn drove change across the sector after a series of takeovers. Many prior studies have documented disparities in school discipline practices across racial, economic, and other student characteristics. The primary purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which students affected by intergenerational poverty (IGP) received infractions (incidents) and experienced exclusionary disciplines (suspensions and expulsions), relative to other student groups. Existing devices for communicating information to computers are bulky, slow, or unreliable. Dasher is an interface incorporating language modeling and driven by continuous two-dimensional gestures (e.g., a mouse, a stylus, or eye-tracker). Tests have shown that, after 1 hr of practice, novice users reach a writing speed of about 20 words per minute (wpm) while taking dictation.
