  • Comparative study of the lipid profile of tears and plasma enriched in growth factors

Open Access•Arantxa Acera, Beatriz Abad et al.•ARTICLE•Experimental Eye Research•2022

The Tear Film Lipid Layer (TFLL) acts primarily as an interface between the aqueous layer and air. Tear film lipid is composed of a thin layer of polar lipids that interact with the secretory layer of the underlying mucosa and a thicker layer of non-polar lipids at the air interface. The tear film has a complex structure and composition that protects the cornea, promotes wound healing, and maintains high-quality vision. Plasma Rich in Growth Fact…

  • Non-hispanic whites have higher risk for pulmonary impairment from pulmonary tuberculosis

Open Access•Jotam G Pasipanodya, Elena Vecino et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

Despite controlling for cigarette smoking, socioeconomic status and time to beginning TB treatment, non-Hispanic White race/ethnicity remained an independent predictor for disproportionately frequent and severe pulmonary impairment after tuberculosis relative to other race/ethnic groups. Since race/ethnicity was self reported and that race is not a biological construct: these findings must be interpreted with caution. However, because race/ethnic…

  • Pulmonary impairment after tuberculosis and its contribution to TB burden

    Open Access•Jotam G Pasipanodya, Scott J N McNabb et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

Our findings demonstrate that the disease burden from TB is greater than previously estimated. Pulmonary impairment after tuberculosis was responsible for the majority of the burden. These data demonstrate that successful TB control efforts may reduce the health burden more than previously recognized
