  • RiDE 2056

Nic Fryer, Natalie Lazaroo et al.•ARTICLE•Research in Drama Education The…•2025

As RiDE celebrates its 30-year anniversary in 2026, this themed issue invites critical and imaginative consideration of applied theatre and drama education futures. In assembling the issue, we have conceived of three sections: articles focusing on the past and present, practices which gesture towards the future and articles that envision imagined …

  • Building radical hope in an imagined world

Open Access•Natalie Lazaroo, Sakinah S J Alhadad et al.•ARTICLE•Research in Drama Education The…•2025

  • The Kickstart Drama project

Open Access•Natalie Lazaroo, Sophiaan Subhan et al.•ARTICLE•Research in Drama Education The…•2024

In particular, we investigate how a participatory arts-based approach can enable young people to reflect on the importance of solidarity. We draw on Freire’s pedagogy of solidarity, arguing for the importance of ‘small’ acts of solidarity that foreground the experiences of systematically excluded …

  • Blurring English language binaries

    Open Access•Danielle H Heinrichs, Gail Hager et al.•ARTICLE•Changing English•2023

This article aims to visibilise the opportunities for decolonising standardised language practices for multilingual students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) in Australian schools. We suggest that a decolonising approach to language education would value the multilingual, non-standard, and diverse language practices of learners. Using the Australian state of Queensland as a case study, we trace examples of decolonisin…

  • Five stars arising’

Natalie Lazaroo•ARTICLE•Research in Drama Education The…•2021

In Singapore, resilience lies at the heart of the nation’s efforts at building a strong civic culture. For those experiencing urban poverty, resilience holds little weight against the national rhetoric of self-reliance and meritocracy as keys to success. This paper presents a three-way conversation between the researcher, applied theatre facilitator, and youth participant, centring on the role applied theatre plays in examining the relationship b…
