  • Feasibility and uptake of a digital mental health intervention for depression among Lebanese and Syrian displaced people in Lebanon

Open Access•Jinane Abi Ramia, Racha Abi Hana et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Introduction: Digital interventions are increasingly regarded as a potential solution for the inaccessibility of mental health treatment across low-and-middle-income settings, especially for common mental disorders. Step-by-Step (SbS) is a digital, guided self-help intervention for depression found effective in two Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) in Lebanon. For research implementation and further scale-up, this paper reports the results of a…

  • Development of the mental health cultural adaptation and contextualization for implementation (mhCaci) procedure

    Open Access•Manaswi Sangraula, B A Kohrt et al.•ARTICLE•Cambridge Prisms Global Mental…•2021

A 10-step mhCACI process could feasibly be implemented in a humanitarian setting to rapidly prepare a psychological intervention for widespread implementation

  • Step-by-Step, an E-Mental Health Intervention for Depression

Open Access•Melissa Joanne Harper Shehadeh, Jinane Abi Ramia et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Step-by-Step skills and techniques, model of service integration, and its non-specialist support element are acceptable. Though the sample was small and non-controlled and drop-out was high, results suggest that it may be effective in reducing depression and anxiety symptoms and increasing well-being. Lessons learned will inform content revision, the development of an app version of Step-by-Step, and the research methodology of upcoming effective…

  • Using a person-generated mental health outcome measure in large clinical trials in Kenya and Pakistan

Open Access•Melissa Harper Shehadeh, Edith van’t Hof et al.•ARTICLE•Transcultural Psychiatry•2020

Health care should be informed by the physical, socioeconomic, mental, and emotional well-being of the person, and account for social circumstances and culture. Patient-generated outcome measures can contribute positively to mental health research in culturally diverse populations. In this study, we analysed qualitative responses to the Psychological Outcome Profiles (PSYCHLOPS) Questionnaire—a patient-generated outcome measure based on open-ende…

  • User-Centered App Adaptation of a Low-Intensity E-Mental Health Intervention for Syrian Refugees

Open Access•Sebastian Burchert, Mohammed Salem Alkneme et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2019

Introduction: The aim of this study is to describe the initial stages of the iterative and user-centered mobile mental health adaptation process of Step-by-Step (SbS), a modularized and originally web-based e-mental health intervention developed by the World Health Organization (WHO). Given the great need for improving the responsiveness and accessibility of health systems in host countries, the EU-funded STRENGTHS consortium studies the adaptati…

  • A qualitative evaluation of a brief multicomponent intervention provided by lay health workers for women affected by adversity in urban Kenya

Open Access•Edith van’t Hof, Katie Dawson et al.•ARTICLE•Cambridge Prisms Global Mental…•2018

The findings across diverse stakeholders show that PM+ is largely acceptable in this Kenyan setting. The results indicated that when further implemented, PM+ could be of great value to people in communities exposed to adversities such as interpersonal violence and chronic poverty. Barriers to large-scale implementation were identified, of which the sustainability of the non-specialist health workforce was the most important one
