A high body mass index strengthens the association between the time of eye rubbing and keratoconus in a Chinese population
These findings suggested that a high BMI aggravated the negative effect of eye rubbing on KC, implying that individuals with a high BMI may be more susceptible to exposure to eye rubbing, which is related to an increased risk of KC
Genetic Risk Score Increased Discriminant Efficiency of Predictive Models for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Using Machine Learning
Background: Previous studies have constructed prediction models for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), but machine learning was rarely used and few focused on genetic prediction. This study aimed to establish an effective T2DM prediction tool and to further explore the potential of genetic risk scores (GRS) via various classifiers among rural adults. Methods: In this prospective study, the GRS for a total of 5,712 participants from the Henan Rural …
Lifestyle Score and Genetic Factors With Hypertension and Blood Pressure Among Adults in Rural China
Background: Although high genetic risk and unhealthful lifestyles are associated with a high risk of hypertension, but the combined relationship between lifestyle score and genetic factors on blood pressure remains limited, especially in resource-constrained areas. Aim: To explore the separate and joint effects between genetic and lifestyle factors on blood pressure and hypertension in rural areas. Methods: In 4,592 adults from rural China with a…
Associations of Socioeconomic Status and Physical Activity With Obesity Measures in Rural Chinese Adults
Background: Although independent association of socioeconomic status (SES) or physical activity (PA) with obesity has been well-documented in urban settings, their independent and joint associations on obesity measures are limited in rural regions. Methods: Almost 38,000 ( n = 37,922) individuals were included from the Henan Rural Cohort Study. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used to evaluate PA. Obesity was reflected…
Associations of spicy food flavour and intake frequency with blood lipid levels and risk of abnormal serum lipid levels in Chinese rural population
Objective: The purpose of the current study was to investigate associations between spicy food intake and serum lipids levels in Chinese rural population. Design: Information on spicy food flavour and intake frequency was obtained using a two-item questionnaire survey. Dietary data were collected using a validated thirteen-item FFQ. Fasting blood samples were collected and measured for total cholesterol (TC), TAG, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-choleste…
The Association of Body Fat Percentage With Hypertension in a Chinese Rural Population
Background: Obesity is an important risk factor for hypertension. Previous studies have explored the association between body fat percentage (BFP) and hypertension, but evidence on the consistency of the association remains uncertain and limited. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between BFP and hypertension in a Chinese rural population. Methods: The present cross-sectional study including 38,913 eligible individuals was cond…
Prevalence and Influencing Factors of Coronary Heart Disease and Stroke in Chinese Rural Adults
Background: Epidemiological studies about cardiovascular disease in rural areas of developing countries are rare. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence and influencing factors of coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke in Chinese rural population. Methods: 39,259 subjects (15,490 males) aged 18-79 years were enrolled from the Henan Rural Cohort Study. Age-standardized prevalence was calculated according to Chinese 6th Population Census. Ass…
Adiposity reduces the risk of osteoporosis in Chinese rural population
The adiposity indices have an inverse association with the risk of osteoporosis among Chinese rural population, especially in the elderly
Mediation effect of body mass index on the association between spicy food intake and hyperuricemia in rural Chinese adults
The Henan Rural Cohort Study registered at Chinese Clinical Trial Register (Registration number: ChiCTR-OOC-15006699 ). Date of registration: 2015-07-06
The prevalence and related factors of familial hypercholesterolemia in rural population of China using Chinese modified Dutch Lipid Clinic Network definition
The current study indicated that FH was not rare in rural area of China (1 in 286). Effective early detection and timely control of FH must be strengthened to reduce disease burden
