Tolerant attitudes towards domestic violence against women in Burkina Faso
Violence against women is a significant human rights violation, with intimate partner violence (IPV) being a major form. In Burkina Faso, cultural norms and structural inequalities contribute to the acceptance of IPV. This study examines the determinants of this acceptance using data from the 2021 Burkina Faso Demographic and Health Survey, focusing on ever-married women aged 15–49 and their attitudes towards IPV. The outcome variable – whether w…

DBM was defined as followed: overweight mother with stunted child (OM/SC); overweight mother with wasted child (OM/WC); overwei…
Sharp drop in under-five mortality and associated factors in Burkina Faso from 2010 to 2021
Background: Long maintained above 100 ‰ since the 1960s, under-five mortality rates in Burkina Faso have experienced a significant decline, although the specific sources of change remain difficult to identify. Notably, under-five mortality increased from 187 ‰ in 1993 to 219 ‰ in 1998. Subsequently, a steady decrease was observed, with rates falling to 184 ‰ in 2003, 129 ‰ in 2010, and ultimately reaching 48 ‰ in 2021. Objectives: The aim of this…
Factors associated with adequate antenatal care use among women of childbearing age in Burkina Faso
Introduction: Antenatal care (ANC) is a critical determinant of maternal and infant wellbeing and is a reliable method for reducing maternal and infant mortality. Antenatal care use is considered adequate when the first ANC takes place in the first trimester and the woman completes at least four ANC in accordance with WHO recommendations during her pregnancy. Despite the increasing of the proportion of women having completed at least four ANC in …
Assessing urban–rural inequality in the primary healthcare system readiness to provide postpartum care for mothers and newborns in Burkina Faso
Our findings suggest an overall lower readiness score for the postpartum care, with a low overall and within urban and rural areas inequality. Even low, reducing these inequalities might help to provide high-quality postpartum care for all mothers and newborns regardless of their place of residence
