Connecting the dots
Graduate trainees and postdoctoral fellows in biomedical sciences face significant challenges that affect their physical and mental health. Among these, perceived discrimination has emerged as a critical factor that undermines well-being and negatively impacts trainees' sense of belonging, career persistence, and retention. This study examined the association between perceived discrimination and trainees' physical, social, and psychological well-…
The aspect of handicraft workshop and the Oegyeongbu in Sabi Capital
This paper examined the location, structure, and operation of handicraft workshops in Sabi Capital in Baekje, and attempted a poetic review of Oegyeongbu location around the workshops. During the Three Kingdoms period, handicrafts include weaving such as sericulture and weaving, ceramics manufacturing earthenware and tile, mining gold, silver, copper, and iron, metallurgy to refine them, and various manufacturing industries to produce household g…

The preventive effect of breast-feeding for longer than 6 months on early pubertal development among children aged 7–9 years in Korea
Objective The present study was performed to investigate whether breast-feeding is associated with early pubertal development among children 7–9 years old in Korea. Design Children were divided into those who did and did not receive breast-feeding for 6 months or longer in accordance with the recommendations of the WHO. Pubertal status was determined by clinical examination using Tanner staging. Setting Prospective observational study. Subjects W…
Evaluation of Two Types of Differential Item Functioning in Factor Mixture Models With Binary Outcomes
Conventional differential item functioning (DIF) detection methods (e.g., the Mantel–Haenszel test) can be used to detect DIF only across observed groups, such as gender or ethnicity. However, research has found that DIF is not typically fully explained by an observed variable. True sources of DIF may include unobserved, latent variables, such as personality or response patterns. The factor mixture model (FMM) is designed to detect unobserved sou…
Effect of Urinary Bisphenol A on Androgenic Hormones and Insulin Resistance in Preadolescent Girls
To assess the effect of urinary bisphenol A (BPA) on repeated measurements of androgenic hormones and metabolic indices, we used multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) adjusted for potential confounders at baseline. During July to August 2011, 80 preadolescent girls enrolled in the Ewha Birth & Growth Cohort study participated in a follow-up study and then forty-eight of them (60.0%) came back one year later. Baseline levels of estradiol and …
Comparison of Exposure Controls, Item Pool Characteristics, and Population Distributions for CAT Using the Partial Credit Model
This study investigated item exposure control procedures under various combinations of item pool characteristics and ability distributions in computerized adaptive testing based on the partial credit model. Three variables were manipulated: item pool characteristics (120 items for each of easy, medium, and hard item pools), two ability distributions (normally distributed and negatively skewed data), and three exposure control procedures (randomes…
