Measurement Instruments for Integration within Children and Young People Healthcare Systems and Networks
Introduction: Robust measures of integration are essential for assessment of the development, design and implementation of integration within healthcare systems. This review aimed to identify measurement instruments for integration within children and young people’s (CYP) healthcare systems (PROSPERO registration number CRD42021235383). Methods: We searched electronic databases (PubMED and Ovid Embase) using three main concepts: ‘(integrated care…
A critique of the English national policy from a social determinants of health perspective using a realist and problem representation approach
We propose an alternative conceptualisation of the policy 'problem', that obesity rates are illustrative of inequality, arguing there needs to be policy focus on the structural and factors that maintain health inequalities, including poverty and food insecurity. We hope that our findings can be used to challenge and strengthen future policy development, leading to more effective action against health inequalities and intervention-generated inequa…
Feasibility and acceptability of a Takeaway Masterclass aimed at encouraging healthier cooking practices and menu options in takeaway food outlets
Objective: To evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of the Takeaway Masterclass, a three-hour training session delivered to staff of independent takeaway food outlets that promoted healthy cooking practices and menu options. Design: A mixed-methods study design. All participating food outlets provided progress feedback at 6 weeks post-intervention. Baseline and 6-week post-intervention observational and self-reported data were collected in h…
Designing equitable workplace dietary interventions
Intervention deliverers perceived that workplace dietary interventions should be equally and easily accessible (in terms of cost and timing of sessions) for all staff, regardless of their job role. Additional effort should be taken to ensure those staff working outside normal working hours, and those working off-site, can easily engage with any intervention, to avoid the risk of intervention-generated inequalities (IGIs)
Searching and synthesising ‘grey literature’ and ‘grey information’ in public health
BACKGROUND: Grey literature includes a range of documents not controlled by commercial publishing organisations. This means that grey literature can be difficult to search and retrieve for evidence synthesis. Much knowledge and evidence in public health, and other fields, accumulates from innovation in practice. This knowledge may not even be of sufficient formality to meet the definition of grey literature. We term this knowledge 'grey informati…
A community-based health promotion intervention using brief negotiation techniques and a pledge on dietary intake, physical activity levels and weight outcomes
Objective To assess the effectiveness of a brief face-to-face health promotion intervention which included a ‘pledge’ using brief negotiation techniques, compared with standard advice-giving techniques, delivered in a community setting. Design A parallel group pre–post design using randomised matched groups. Lifestyle helpers delivered the intervention (one consultation per participant). Diet, physical activity and anthropometric measurements wer…
