  • Changes in drinking levels and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease: A longitudinal study from the China multi-ethnic cohort study

Open Access•Ning Zhang, Jingzhong Li et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

In the less developed regions of China, sustained moderate drinking was associated with the risk of MASLD compared with sustained non-drinking. Increased drinking showed a trend towards a higher risk of MASLD. This study can inform drinking policies related to MASLD and liver fibrosis in less developed regions

  • Higher Life’s Essential 8 score is associated with lower risk of kidney stones in Chinese adults: A cross-sectional study

Open Access•Xinqiang Chen, Yanjiao Wang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Higher LE8 and its subscale scores were associated with a lower risk of kidney stones. Adherence to a more optimal CVH will likely be a comprehensive preventive and management measure to reduce the severe disease burden of kidney stones

  • Temporal relationship between hepatic steatosis and fasting blood glucose elevation: A longitudinal analysis from China and UK

Open Access•Yujie Liu, Xian Liang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Our findings contribute to determining the sequential relationship between NAFLD and T2D in the causal pathway, highlighting that the dominant pathway in the relationship between these two early stages of diseases was the one from hepatic steatosis to fasting blood glucose elevation. Individuals having NAFLD face a significantly increased risk of T2D and require long-term monitoring of their glucose status as well

  • Association of Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension diet and Mediterranean diet with blood pressure in less-developed ethnic minority regions

Open Access•Suyao Dai, Xiong Xiao et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2022

Objective: We aimed to investigate the associations of Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH)-style diet and Mediterranean-style diet with blood pressure (BP) in less-developed ethnic minority regions (LEMR). Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: Dietary intakes were assessed by a validated FFQ. Dietary quality was assessed by the DASH-style diet score and the alternative Mediterranean-style diet (aMED) score. The association between di…
