  • Using the Community Perception Tracker (CPT) to inform Covid-19 response in Lebanon and Zimbabwe

Open Access•Fiona Majorin, Anika Jain et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

The CPT appears to be a promising approach for ensuring that community engagement is undertaken systematically and that community perspectives are actively incorporated to improve programming. While crisis-affected populations generally found the programmes to be useful and relevant and to have influenced their knowledge and behaviours, it is not possible to attribute this to the CPT approach due to the study design

  • Facilitating hand hygiene in displacement camps during the Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•Siân White, Anika Jain et al.•ARTICLE•Conflict and Health•2022

Background Handwashing with soap is critical for the prevention of diarrhoeal diseases and outbreak related diseases, including interrupting the transmission of COVID-19. People living in large displacement settings are particularly vulnerable to such outbreaks, however, practicing handwashing is typically challenging in these contexts. Methods We conducted a qualitative assessment of the implementation of a combined intervention to facilitate ha…

Open Access•Mahbubur Rahman, Tania Jahir et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Community health workers (CHWs) are key to implementing community-based health interventions and quality can be enhanced by better understanding their lived experiences. The WASH Benefits, Bangladesh trial engaged 540 female CHWs to promote varying health intervention packages. We report on factors influencing their lived experiences during the trial, to aid future recruitment, training and retention of CHWs. Nine focus groups and 18 in-depth int…

  • Community perceptions of vaccination among influential stakeholders

Open Access•Baldeep K Dhaliwal, Riti Chandrashekhar et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

Communication of broader benefits of vaccines and vaccination services by community health workers could be impactful in increasing vaccine acceptance. Vaccine uptake could potentially be improved by facilitating community health workers' ownership over vaccine acceptance and uptake by involving them in the design and implementation of interventions to target mothers and mothers-in-law. A 'bottom-up' approach, leveraging community health workers'…

  • The effects of polio eradication efforts on health systems

    Open Access•Daniela C Rodríguez, Abigail H Neel et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2021

Vertical disease control programmes have enormous potential to benefit or weaken health systems, and it is critical to understand how programmes’ design and implementation impact the health systems and communities in which they operate. We use the Develop–Distort Dilemma (DDD) framework to understand how the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) distorted or developed local health systems. We include document review and 176 interviews with r…
