  • Testosterone Changes in Couples in Response to a Caregiving Task with an Infant Simulator

    Open Access•Rachel E Brandon, Annika From et al.•ARTICLE•Human Nature•2026

In the current study, we assessed the role of caregiving in testosterone reactivity by examining whether and how testosterone changed in romantic partners as they jointly cared for an “infant simulator,” a lifelike doll designed to mimic many of the behaviors of a real infant. Although testosterone often declines as a function of caring for a child, especially when parents feel able to meet the child’s needs, less is known about joint caregiving …

  • Does similarity matter? A scoping review of perceived and actual similarity in romantic couples

Open Access•Annika From, Emily Diamond et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•2025

This scoping review seeks to integrate disparate research on the role of similarity in romantic relationships, a topic of long-standing interest among researchers and popular culture alike. • Toward a science of relationship forecasting

    Amie M Gordon, Katherine R Thorson et al.•ARTICLE•American Psychologist•2025

Given the importance of high-quality romantic relationships for health and well-being, researchers have spent decades examining factors that promote them. In doing so, they have identified factors that influence the formation and maintenance of relationships on average, in the moment, and for certain populations. However, making more targeted predictions for particular groups of people or even specific couples-with a meaningful degree of accuracy…

  • I love you but I hate your politics

Amie M Gordon, Maria Luciani et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•2024•Cited by: 2

Amid heightened political polarization in the United States, have politics worked their way into the bedroom? An increase in political similarity between romantic partners has consequences not just for romantic relationships but for society as a whole; political homophily increases our political echo chambers and affects future generations. We drew upon 11 data sets with over 4,000 individuals (including more than 500 couples) to test four prereg…

    Open Access•Annika From, Jasmine Banks et al.•ARTICLE•Personal Relationships•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 43

A convergent, mixed-methods design was used to understand associations between partner behaviors and relationship quality among people in interracial and intraracial romantic relationships. Across two samples, 224 individuals (including 55 couples) who were in a relationship in which they and/or their partner identified as Black completed measures of perceived partner responsiveness, partner responses to stress, and relationship quality. Particip…
